For me, upholstery and stair cleaning should be one of the hardest tasks if you lack the right tools.
With the Shark Perfect II hand vacuum cleaner, you don’t have to worry about those two tasks anymore and you don’t have to spend more than a hundred dollars.
It is one of the few handheld vacuums equipped with a motorized brush which in essence makes it an effective tool for cleaning pet hair from stairs, upholstery, hard floors and a variety of carpeted surfaces.

It also comes with two other attachments – a crevice tool and a brush to get into crevices and pick up dust off hard surfaces = more versatility.
Good housekeeping gave it a B rating saying it was great at removing pet hair and dirt from bare floors but had a short peak power.
It also scored highly on Consumer Reports testing where they stated that it “sniffed out” pet hair.
Since it uses a NiCad battery, it’s not the lightest handheld at around 5 pounds, but that’s somewhat underrated for its power and according to several reviews, it has very good suction power for a handheld and is great for use on upholstery, carpets, and stairways.

What do you expect from Shark Pet Perfect II?
Pet Perfect II uses an 18V battery that takes 16 hours to fully charge.
It uses a Dyson-like cyclonic action to keep dirt out of the filter hole to maintain performance while the dirt cup fills up.
The uptime though is a bit short, so don’t expect more than 15 minutes.
Here are the other features.
- It is powered by an 18-volt nickel-cadmium battery
- The manufacturer claims that this has 35% more suction power compared to other 15.6V vacuum cleaners
- It comes with a motorized brush that removes pet hair and dirt from carpets and hard floors
- washable filter
- without bag
- wall mount charging stand
- Includes 3 attachments – crevice, brush and motorized brush tool
Attachments and accessories
All in all there are 3 attachments – motorized brush roll, crevice and brush tool. The charging station comes with a storage case for these 3 tools.
Shipping time
Initial charge time will be 24 hours and then 16 hours on subsequent charges.
Shark recommends unplugging the charger after a 16-hour charge cycle and draining the battery to extend its service life.
Filter cleaning
There are no videos available online to show you how to do it, but the unpacking process is simple, it may require it
- Press the release button to separate the dust cup from the motor
- pull the filter and
- Empty the dust cup and wash the filter
You may need to purchase additional filters to avoid having to wait for the filter to dry.
the show length
Shark doesn’t say how long this product will run, expect it to last about 15 minutes but that’s minus the brush roller. With a motorized brush, this number will drop to about 10 minutes.
Customer Service and Warranty
There are no comments regarding customer service. Shark offers consumers a one-year limited warranty against defects.
bare floor performance
Good Housekeeping gave it a B rating in their review and one reason is that it excels at cleaning bare floors, and the motorized brush combined with the suction power is a good combination for picking up dust and pet hair although it can struggle with larger debris because it tends to spit out those.
An alternative solution is to use a crevice or brush or not to use any attachments at all, as the suction will be strong enough.
You can also use the slit to clean the boards and the brush tool to remove dust from the tables.
carpet performance
The motorized brush will only work on fine debris on the carpet. You will struggle on larger debris because this tool is compact and the hole is not large. For cleaning large bits of dirt, a brush tool is a better option.
If you have carpeted stairs, this will work great because…again the motorized brush.
Pet hair removal
Lots of pet owners have left comments on this product and love how effective it is at picking pet hair out of carpets and upholstery.
The downside of the brush roller is that it doesn’t spin or rotate so it can be a little rough on the wrist.

In fact, a lot of pet owners have purchased this and liked how they cleaned pet hair from upholstery and carpet but there were some complaints about how difficult it was to clean the brush roll.
Runtime was somewhat lacking though some people complained that if they used the beater brush, it drained too quickly.
There are also complaints about the tools falling off because they don’t have any locking mechanism. This is
Despite the number of negative reviews, they were mostly positive with most of them stating that the suction power is good even though the runtime is not long.

to finish
This portable device would be great for pet owners who are looking for a product to help clean pet hair from upholstery and stairs.
However, this is not intended to be used as a replacement for a vacuum cleaner as it lacks reach and has a very short runtime, so it is only intended for spot cleaning.
The motorized brush attachment is a nice feature but it does not have a locking mechanism and cannot rotate like the Dyson V6. So this takes away from usability somewhat, but only costs you about 10 times that, so you have to take the good with the bad. But the shark isn’t that expensive, so that’s a great deal.
The other attachments also do not have a locking mechanism so make sure you attach them securely before using this or it will fall off.
Nickel-cadmium battery is a concern due to its long charging time and short operating time. It will also have a shorter life compared to lithium ion but is removable so it shouldn’t be a concern.
