Shark has been busy in terms of manufacturing new products in its vacuum cleaner line, and this is one of the newest listings currently available.
they call it APEX DuoClean Powered Away Lifting Device.
It comes with the latest features – DuoClean, Lift-Away, Noise Reduction and Active Glide.
The last two features are not available in the other menus, namely NV752, And NV803.
Another feature that homeowners will love is the appliance wand that makes cleaning under low furniture much easier.
But the question is, are you willing to pay an extra $$$ to purchase this latest version?
Excellent at cleaning debris on hard floors and carpets
Shark APEX DuoClean AX951 Review
The Shark APEX AX951 is an excellent choice inside larger homes with carpet or hardwood floors thanks to the Duo Clean nozzle and extra-large capacity. It has an electric Lift-Away system, so it also gives consumers the ability to clean hard-to-reach areas like spots under their beds or low clearance tables. The airtight system has been tested to keep allergens in place, and the large capacity dust container is easy to empty because it has plenty of space. If you are looking for a mid-priced vertical that can clean a variety of surfaces, this is a good option to consider.
- This multi-purpose column is capable of cleaning floors and upholstery
- DuoClean technology provides excellent abrasion on a variety of surfaces
- 7 Year Extended Warranty – Longer Than A Dyson!
- Comes with the device stick at the bottom of the box
- It has a sealed filter with more HEPA function
- Decent sized bin
- Expensive but again cheaper than Dyson
- Relatively short power cord – only 30 feet
- Heavy machine weighing 16 pounds
What do you expect from Shark APEX Powered Lift-Away?
This straight version is an upgraded version of DuoClean NV803 With the same dual brush system. I would say to expect similar cleaning performance.
The most significant difference will be the size of the container and the new features that Shark has added in APEX.
It includes active gliding and noise reduction technology that aims to reduce carpet resistance and reduce noise.
These are “convenient” upgrades in my book that may or may not justify the price difference. But it depends on how much you are willing to spend.
Under cleaning machine
Another “convenient” upgrade is the lower stick which works great on furniture where the spacing is less than 5 inches.
I have a few of these in my house, and cleaning is nearly impossible without moving the furniture itself.
Watch this video to see the different features of this vacuum cleaner and how it works.
What I like about Shark is the attention to detail they put into their products.
For example, if you look under the head of the main brush, then everything is well thought out.
Around the dual brush are soft, cloth-like fibers to protect your hard floor from plastic and prevent scratches. It also doubles as a seal giving this excellent straight pick-up on crevices and carpets.
This feature is Shark patented technology so you don’t see it on other brands. Up front is a soft cylindrical rod that picks up big piles of dirt better than any vacuum cleaner I’ve seen — even better than the Dyson Ball Animal 2 on hard floors.
Behind it is a standard brush roll that irritates and picks up dirt on the rug. This combination makes Shark APEX and Duo Clean one of the most versatile machines in its ability to clean floors, carpets and rugs.
Even the front wheels are covered in felt and are far from the brush. Prevents snowfall and improves efficiency.
Versatile cleaning head
The dual brush system (hence the name DuoClean) will pick up fine dust and large bits of dirt like cherry.
DuoClean technology allows for a fit of more large particles because it has a higher clearance. In vacuum cleaners of the older generation, this is not possible due to the low design.
In cleaning tests, even on the previous generation NV803, this dual brush system would suck up dirt.
Pickup is good on bare floors or carpets.
It may not match a commercial vacuum cleaner in terms of deep cleaning, but its versatility makes up for it.
If you buy a machine that’s been around for five years, you get a machine that isn’t very versatile. Even with the hose and the wand, it would be difficult to use it to clean upholstery.
Developed by Shark for the first time in the Navigator Series, the Lift-Away System is a revolutionary technology that expands rectal functionality.
Previous Lift-Away Sharks only allowed the use of hose and wand, but recent variants allow you to use the main cleaning head even in canister mode.
This feature basically turns this position vertically into a vacuum cleaner with a larger capacity and better capture.
The 1.5L dirt bin makes it suitable for large homes. When you compare this to the 0.9-liter capacity of the DuoClean NV803, it almost doubles.
But the added capacity will add to the weight of this product.
In front of the cleaning there are two rows of LED lights that help illuminate the area being cleaned.
Helps track dust that is almost invisible during the day.
Advanced Hypoallergenic Full Seal
People who have taken advantage of this portrait mode will benefit because it has a completely closed system, which, according to Shark, emits 10 times fewer particles.
Thanks to the HEPA filter after the engine that prevents pollen and microscopic dust from releasing the exhaust again.
Active Glide System
Another bonus is the Active Glide System, which helps this upright position to move better over thicker pile carpets.
Shark APEX rolls use a 1350W motor, which is larger than a motor Dyson Synch which has a 1200 watt motor.
It translates to decent suction and cleaning performance on carpets.
Add the DuaClean system, and this machine will have excellent cleaning performance on bare floors and carpets.
rotary dynamic steering
Shark also adds dynamic swivel steering, which means running a cleaning dime around furniture won’t be a problem.
The swivel steering will operate in vertical position and lift, making this machine a versatile cleaner.
It has the same rotation feature found in the other Shark menus that makes it easy to move around the room.
bare floor performance
The DuoClean System makes an excellent bare floor cleaner. The addition of the soft cylinder rod was a great move by Shark because it virtually eliminated the snow shoveling problem that many slates have.
It will pull out particles (of all sizes) and clean the immaculate floor, and the fine roller is noted to have excellent build quality. It has a lot of weight and should hold up in the long run.
The DuoClean system does an excellent job of picking up surface dirt from carpets.
However, the dual brush system that the Shark uses is so powerful that it pulls the cleaning head forward in the lifted position. Without the weight of the case and motor, it can be difficult to use it in open spaces on carpet.
The stiff bristles on the second brush and sealant give it above average performance on the carpet. It won’t be as good as Dyson Ball Animal 2 when it comes to deep cleaning, but its performance on hard surfaces makes up for this limitation.
If you take a look at the reviews, people were interested in how this broom picks up all kinds of dirt on the carpet.
Another noteworthy feature is the self-propelled motor underneath which helps to pull the vacuum forward. Just switch it to carpet mode to access this feature.
With the vacuum’s weight (16 pounds), this feature is essential, so it’s very important for Shark to add.
Other tools included
Besides the main DuoClean head, Shark also throws in a few other tools that will help you clean areas above the floor, such as upholstery and areas underneath.
The AX951 if you buy it from Amazon will come with the following:
- Anti-allergic dusting brush
- Pet Multi Tool
- slit duster
- MultiFlex Under Stick Device

If there is one thing consumers love about this product, it is how it cleans. DuoClean does a great job of cleaning everything Surface types such as solid woodtiles, and even thicker pile carpets.
Great on bare floors
In the case of bare floors that are kicked up with a coarse brush, they will be swept away thanks to a fine roller applicator that does a great job of drawing dirt in.
It’s very good that you don’t need a broom after using this.
Moving this onto the carpet is not a problem despite its weight because it has an Active Glide system that kicks in when the carpet mode is used.
The appliance’s bottom wand is another popular feature because it picks up dirt under the refrigerator or stove without having to move it!
If there is a problem with this vertical position, it will be the weight. At 16 pounds, this product is by no means light, but most lists will hover around that weight.
Not as strong as Oreck RS Magnesium
So if you need something lighter with strength, you may want to consider Oreck RS Magnesium.
Even in the case position, some consumers said it was heavy, so it’s a good idea to look at it if you don’t want to carry heavy things.
Some consumers said this was quiet, but if you watch the video above, it doesn’t appear to be. Just do not use this when an infant or child is nearby.
If buying a Dyson Cinetic sounds like a pipe dream, Shark APEX offers a more realistic alternative. This vertical position is cheaper and more versatile thanks to the Lift-Away feature.
DuoClean works great on all surfaces, and I dare say it could outshine the Dyson.
It’s also HEPA-filtered, so it’s also great for people who may have allergies.
If this alternative is too expensive, take a look at the previous generation DuoClean NV803. It will have the same performance but cheaper.
Excellent choice for cleaning hard floors and carpets
- Work environment – 91%
- Surface cleaning – 96%
- Quality – 92%
- Design – 93%
- Values - 93%
This upright position is one of the most underrated options available at the moment. Power, versatility, and reach make the Shark APEX AX951 one of the most compelling choices for people looking for a full-size shaft that’s more cost-effective than Dyson Ball Animal 2. It has the Duo Clean System that’s probably best at cleaning bare floors because it can Takes large, fine dirt easily. If you have pets, this may not be a good option as it does not have a Zero-M feature. Pet owners should choose the Shark APEX with Zero-M technology that works great for consistently detangling.
