Shark 12 Volt Review: Lightweight Handheld

Shark 12 Volt Review: Lightweight Handheld

Posted on May 23, 2022 by admin

This Shark cordless design reminds me of the no-nonsense late ’90s design of Black and Decker’s dust ejector, it looks a little more modern in a black and gray finish.

Unfortunately, the performance is also similar to that of the 90’s cordless vacuum cleaner based on some of the reviews I read.

Related: please check my An in-depth guide to the best shark brooms And discover the most suitable shark cleaner for your needs.

But others were quite happy with the performance saying it had good suction and enough uptime.

I checked the Shark site and they no longer have this model.

Therefore warranty claims must be submitted through Amazon or wherever you purchased it. You can also check with Shark if they honor warranty claims for this.

The good news is that it’s really cheap at less than $34, which is great because it doesn’t lighten your wallet.

So, if you’re really looking for something to do quick cleanups that’s also affordable, check out the rest of this review.

Although it looks bare, it does the basic accessories you need for this type of vacuum cleaner.

It comes with a crevice and brush tool that helps pick up dirt along the edges and pet hair on upholstery.

It is only rated at 12V so don’t expect much in terms of power.

Attachments and accessories

It comes with a crevice and a dusting brush but does not have an extra filter.

Shipping time

Recharging will take approximately 14-16 hours based on two customers who left a review. Shark did not have this product listed on their website, so these numbers are not official.

Filter cleaning

Cleaning the filter is very easy, just press the button to release the dust cup, pull out the filter and then empty the dust cup into the trash.

Cleaning the filter can be a bit messy as you will need to use your fingers to remove dirt sticking to the filter.

the show length

Once again there are no official numbers as this product has been discontinued.

If you take a look at the reviews, it is between 5 and 30 minutes.

Since this vacuum uses a NiCad battery, the battery life will be questionable and will not last as long as a Li-Ion battery.

One of the big drawbacks that a NiCad battery has is the power fade which can happen as early as the 3 minute mark if you look at the reviews.

Guarantee

Comes with a one year warranty.

bare floor performance

This product is more suitable for hard floor surfaces than carpet. The crevice tool works great if you want to get to the edges.

And the dusting tool works great for removing dust or pet hair from upholstery (according to some reviews).

carpet performance

Not really good on the carpet because the suction is a bit lacking here.

This may succeed in catching loose dirt over shallow carpeting.

But if the dirt is embedded under a shaggy or even medium pile rug, there is no need to use this as it does not have enough strength.

Pet hair removal

Some consumers reported that it worked great at picking up pet hair on hard surfaces, and one commented that it was able to remove pet hair with a dusting brush tool on upholstery.

It has a wide nozzle so pet hair won’t clog it too much.

If you have a lot of pets, I wouldn’t recommend this because of its relatively short runtime plus it doesn’t have any pet hair tool at all that should make this easier.

It can work on hardwood floors or leather upholstery.

Watch it in action

Unfortunately, I can’t find any decent videos showing this in action.

Customer Reviews

Surprisingly, it has an above average review on Amazon even though it only got a little over 20 reviews. I say surprise because I didn’t expect this lightweight to pack so many punches.

Adverse reactions focused on rapidly degrading suction after the 2 or 3 minute mark.

However, positive reviews indicated that he was able to maintain the suction for 5 to 10 minutes for a few days. One in particular mentioned that it only needs to be charged once after 5 days (use it for about 5-10 minutes a day).

They complained about the long charging time of 14-16 hours.

Reviews from other sites

Point of views

Nearly 20 people left a comment and most of them are positive. The owners here were a mix of pet owners and parents looking for an inexpensive handheld device that would do the job.

The pet owners were pleased that the wide muzzle was large enough to pick up hair and other litter that their pets leave behind.

Parents were happy that it helped them keep up with the mess their little ones are causing which includes spilled Cheerios and other messes.

As a parent, I can relate to this because since my toddler started walking he has developed a habit of throwing things around and I’m sure a lot of parents can relate to this.

The uptime was good, with some consumers reporting about 20 minutes before the suction deteriorated, there were also complaints of a very short up to two minutes of runtime before the suction became unusable, so this is a mixed bag.

There were also consumers who claimed this was the best portable vacuum but I wouldn’t go that far as this has its limitations.

bed bath and outside

As on Amazon, it received just over 24 reviews and the positive and negative points were similar.

One carefully crafted review. He said it had enough suction to pick up loose dirt. However, anything embedded on the carpet or upholstery will be difficult to clean.

The consensus here is that it works better on hard floors than carpet.

Complaints here focused on lack of uptime, several complained that it died on them after a few minutes, with at least two saying it didn’t last the entire warranty period, so there are also quality control issues at least according to BBB customers.

Where can I buy this?

On Amazon, the SV66 is only available for under $35. The SV7728 is not currently available but both of these variants have essentially the same features.

Conclusion

This bare vacuum cleaner is great for owners of small homes, cars, or even RV owners who are looking for a lightweight product that doesn’t need a lot of storage space while still providing decent suction to clean small messes here and there without having to. For spending over $50.

Parents can also take advantage of this if they are looking for an affordable handheld device to help them clean up the spills here and there that their kids make.

Pet owners should look elsewhere because this portable 12-volt appliance doesn’t have enough suction to keep up with pets drooling.

Don’t expect much though as it doesn’t have a powerful motor and only has a 12v battery that takes over half a day to recharge.

Also be sure to unplug it after the LED charging indicator shows that the battery is full, this will extend the life of the battery.
