Differentiating the Roomba models can be confusing, but it’s not difficult. iRobot ranks its products by layers. You have entry level options that include 600 series bots – 614, 675 and 690.
Next in line is the E Series, which has the same specifications as the 600 Series, but with the same enclosure as the I-Series robots.
The mid-priced Roomba options are the 960 and 980, followed by the I and S series robots.
We will focus on Roomba 675 and E5.
Roomba 675: Probably the best robot for beginners to clean carpets

These two robotic places are part of Roomba alternatives for beginners. The 675 is currently the least expensive option from the E5.
These robots have iRobot’s adaptive navigation system, which means that they will move randomly.
None of these options can remember or save maps.
Recharge and resume not present. It will cycle around the area until the battery runs low, then dock to recharge.
One advantage with these bots is their ability to cover the entire area even with its randomness.
It will clean all areas and will be very thorough with dirt detection. This feature is what sets Roomba apart from other brands.

Another similarity is the single-sided brush design. It is fixed on all Roomba products, except for the S9.
One of the problems I have is how fast it spins. They tend to scatter large piles of debris. But it is not a problem for daily cleaning operations as the robot will only have to deal with dust.
3. WIFI and iRobot Home APP compatibility
Both options have WIFI and are compatible with the iRobot Home app.
Even if the features of the app are completely bare, you’d better bend down to press the clean button of the robot.

Both robots retain the circular shape found on most Roomba products. The only model with a different profile is the flagship S9 model.
One advantage of the square front is that it is more efficient at cleaning edges thanks to the wider extractors and redesigned side brush.
Differences between Roomba 675 and E5
Next, we’ll look at the differences between these two rooms for beginners.
1. Roll brush
One of the most important differences between the 675 and the E5 is the brush roller design.
The E5 retains the same brush system found in all Roomba options, but contains the same rubber extractors as the I7.
In contrast, the Model 675 uses the older blade and bristle assembly like the Model 690.
Of the two, I like the E5 brushes best because they are superior at resisting tangles, especially from human and pet hair.
Both options are better than the more expensive Roomba 690.
2. The size and design of the dustbin
Another upgrade with the E5 is the dust container, from the standpoint of capacity and design.

In contrast, the 675 retains the same coil layout Roomba 690 and 614. It has a large cleaning button in the middle, with positional and docking buttons on the top and bottom.
There is no difference between the jobs. Just an aesthetic change to adapt to the newer Roomba designs.
iRobot says these robots use adaptive navigation technology. In normal language, this means that it will pass randomly.
The Roomba 675 shifts randomly like the 690.
Expect the same mobility from the E5 as it relies on different infrared sensors around and below to avoid various obstacles.
It does not have the floor tracking sensor located in The latest Roomba I3 or the Roborock E4so it has no way of tracking its location.
Hence, it does not have a recharge and resume feature. It will work until the battery is low, then recharge, but the cleaning will not resume after that.
Both models are compatible with the iRobot Home app.
The main benefit of the app is to schedule and access the bot without being physically next to it.
Pairing the app and the bot requires you to have a router at home. This device will act as a bridge between the robot and the app.
Once connected, the app is responsive and easy to use.
Unfortunately, it lacks the bells and whistles of the Xiaomi Home app.
For example, you can only schedule the bot to be cleaned once per day. After setting the time and day, the already selected days are disabled.
If iRobot modifies the app and allows unlimited daily scheduling, I’m sure it will attract more consumers.
How much power do Roomba 675 and E5 have?
Surprisingly, the Roomba 675 has slightly more airflow than the E5 based on the anemometer results.

One reason could be the narrow space between the E5 rollers. Smaller area may mean less air passes through the vents, hence the lower number.
Roomba 675 has a more open area, which promotes better airflow (at least in theory).
This section will look at how clean the floors of the Roomba 690 and E5 are.
I’ve tested both extensively, and the results are close.
The Roomba E5 did better with overall results, providing a more balanced capture across different surfaces.
It was better on hard floors and cleaning the built-in dirt on the middle pile rug while still being too close to picking up the surface dirt on the carpet.
I like the E5’s rubber extractors better than the 675’s traditional brushes.
Pickup isn’t an issue on the E5, but the lower airflow means some debris will be left on the brush assembly.
However, it is not a big deal when cleaning dust or hair.
hard floor results
While both robots scored high on hard floors, the E5 fared much better. The rollers make clean passes, even with hard-to-clean sand.
One problem with the 675 and the E5 is the fast-rotating side brush, which disperses debris to a larger radius.
Random navigation exacerbates this problem.
Which is better for hardwood floors?
E5 is Better on hard floors With rubber suction though lower airflow.
Passes were cleaner. Even with sand, it can capture almost everything in one pass.
It’s something other brands like Roborock struggle with, even with more airflow.
Roomba 675 is also suitable, but a conventional brush is much less.
The E5 is optional for hard surfaces due to the cleaner pick-up and extracts that require less maintenance.
You can see the difference with sand on our hard floor test, where the E5 picked up more sand versus 675.
It is on this surface that the Roomba 675 and E5 shine.
The brush with opposite rotation and dirt detection can pick up dirt deep in the carpet. It won’t be as good as the higher level Roomba 960 or 980but above average.
The dual brush design is a patented technology so it’s a feature you’ll only see on iRobot. You won’t see this feature even with iRobot’s main competitor – Neato.
It’s an important reason why iRobot products pick up dirt so well on carpets. Of all the robotic vacuum cleaners, the Roomba comes in the first place when it comes to cleaning carpets.
Roomba 675 and E5 scores are pretty close – less than a percentage point. But E5 is better at cleaning built-in dirt.
Deep cleaning results
The Roomba E5 is better at deep sand cleaning, capturing an average of 89.66% in three tests. When you take into account the reduced airflow, this is a pretty impressive result, close to the more expensive Roomba 980.
In contrast, the Roomba 675 had a score of 85.1%.
This proves that the newer extractors in E5 are better while stirring because they have deeper grooves and sit flat on the ground.
Big debris test
I’ve tried both bots the way they work on big wrecks like Cheerios and Fruit loops. The 675 was better because the brushes have more space between them. In contrast, the E5 performed well, but cleaning up a lot of large debris could clog the entrance to the trash.
Also, the smaller gap between the cylinders isn’t ideal for large debris, but it still picks up.
Another potential problem is a large dirt particle sticking to the locking mechanism.
So if you’re cleaning things like Cheerios, check this area if there’s any debris.
Edge cleaning comparison
The circular frame of these robots hinders their reach, negatively affecting edge cleaning performance.
I scattered a good amount of pet droppings for both robots to see how much they picked up.

The Roomba 675 actually performed better with fewer clips left based on the images above.
Regardless, don’t expect too much from both in this category.
Thanks to the wide body and aperture, the Roomba 675 litter box is larger at 0.6 liters, while the E5 is smaller at 0.4 liters.
Not only is the E5 trash can sized, it’s also washable with the motor moved away from the dustbin.
Make sure to remove the filter as this part is not washable.
Roomba 675 container is not washable because part of it is inside the container.
One advantage the Roomba 675 has is its larger opening, so getting rid of dirt is easier than the smaller entrance on the E5.
Both models are part of the latest generation releases of Roomba. This means that it comes with a Li-ion battery that has a longer life and is not prone to power fade.
The 675 and E5 models use the iRobot’s 1,800 Li-ion battery and will run for up to 90 minutes.
I tested both robots with a sound meter from a few meters away, and here are the results.
- Roomba 675: 65.6 dB
- Roomba E5: 65.6 dB
The results are identical. It’s not a deafening loud noise, but it’s big, and you’ll need to raise your voice a bit to have a good conversation.
I do not recommend using this robot late at night with your children sleeping.
One way to ensure the longevity of these robots is regular maintenance. I will identify the things that need to be cleaned or replaced periodically.
- Main and side brushes: These two parts are considered the most abusive as dirt and hair accumulate. Failure to clean will result in premature engine wear and loss of air flow.
- Sensors: These robots rely on an array of sensors for navigation. The most important are the bumper sensors in front of the robot and the cliff sensors below. Wipe these areas with a clean, dry microfiber towel.
- Wheels: Another part that takes a beating is the wheel. Turn the robot over to see if there is dirt buildup occasionally. Make sure to clean the rubber wheels and wheels. Roomba makes cleaning easy due to its modular design. It will not be difficult to disassemble it.
- Dustbin: Don’t forget to clean the dust container. Empty it after each run. You don’t want dust mites inside your robot!
