Roborock recently introduced several new robots to its product line, namely the S7 MaxV and Q-Series.
This article will compare the S7+ and the S7 MaxV, two of Roborock’s most notable companies.
The S7+ was the first Roborock product with an auto-blank base station, and the S7 MaxV enhances this feature, adding a wash-pad element to improve autonomy.
But there is a significant price gap between these variants, and my goal with this comparison is to determine if the S7 MaxV is worth the extra premium.

Introduction to Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and S7 +
Roborock may not be as popular as iRobot, but the innovations they have brought into the industry are hard to overlook.
Some of the innovations they have introduced include the live map, invisible walls, exclusion zones, mop lift, and mop shake features.
The Roborock S7 MaxV enhances ease of use with its wash-pad feature.
but unlike Narwal T10 and Dreame Bot W10It uses a more efficient pad cleaning system.

After submitting a file Self-unloading base station on the S7 +Roborock takes it one step further with the S7 MaxV Ultra with wash-pad feature.
This combination is not the first. Ecovacs have their own version, DEEBOT X1, but the Roborock’s design provides better access to the water tanks and bag since they’re up front in a row.
Another addition is the improved obstacle avoidance technology that Roborock calls Interactive AI 2.0.
Roborock has improved it by surrounding the dual-lens camera with laser sensors and an LED light underneath.
These add-ons help identify barriers and the tests prove their success.
However, he struggled with extended wires and didn’t completely avoid the weighing scale, but that’s it.
Avoid things like pet feces, coiled wires, small toys, shoes, and slippers without any problems.
The S7 MaxV will avoid anything in its field of view.

It retains the same efficiency as the S7+ and excels at cleaning hard floors.
A vibrating mop removes stains efficiently, but I wouldn’t recommend it just for mopping floors.
It can’t pick up liquids, which limits its functionality, so use it on stains for maintenance tasks.
I wasn’t expecting much from the pad cleaning feature, but it works better than the Dreame Bot W10 design.
The bandage is relatively clean after several bandage cleaning cycles. Here’s a look at the situation after the scan tests.
In the previous photo you can see the dark areas around the pillow, but in the next photo, the pillow is almost clean.
The gray cloth helps hide light stains.
The Roborock S7 MaxV has the same ramp pattern as the S7+ with the exact port placement.
And behind it is the cushion cleaning mechanism.
It retains the same cleaning efficiency as the S7, and since they both have the same airflow, expect the same results.

With the release of the S7 MaxV Ultra, I expect the price of the S7+ to drop.
So far, it hasn’t, but I expect it will drop once Roborock officially releases the Ultra version in online stores like Amazon.
This variant is the first Roborock with a self-discharge feature.
Surprisingly, this older variant has slightly more airflow, thus capturing (slightly) more sand in our deep cleaning test.
But I don’t put much stock on the contrast because it’s so small.
The Roborock S7+ lacks many of the features available with the S7 MaxV, the most obvious being the wash-pad feature.
The lack of a pad cleaning mechanism and water tanks significantly reduces the size of the base station, and therefore does not have much space.
If that’s a sticking point, go with the S7+.
Another omission is the obstacle avoidance technology, which was previously seen in the S6 MaxV.
This feature helps avoid things like pet feces, small toys, coiled wires, and anything that is within the laser’s line of sight.
Again, this will depend on what you prefer. If avoiding obstructions is critical inside your home, the S7 MaxV Ultra will be the best choice, especially inside homes with toys or pets.
However, it will be an expensive upgrade.
Similarities Between Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and S7 +
Next, we’ll look at the similarities between the S7 MaxV Ultra and the S7+, starting with the self-discharge feature.
1. Self-discharge option
The most obvious similarity is that both robots have the almost indispensable self-discharge feature since Roomba introduced this feature with the I7+.
However, the base stations for these products are different.
The S7+ has a more compact dock with a double-barrel design — one with the filter and the other with the pouch.
I believe Roborock used this design because the S7 has a bagless base station sold in Europe.
The only other bagless self emptying robot that I know of is Shark intelligence.
The base station of the S7 MaxV is much larger due to the wash-pad feature.
This plus size was a necessity because of the pillow’s wash-down feature.
In addition to the bag, Roborock engineers had to incorporate clean and dirty water tanks into the design.
2. ramp
Another similarity is a ramp berth that provides a secure platform for the robot to sit on while charging.
It is a better design than the vertical port because there will be no alignment issues, and it is compatible on any surface.
Port mode is similar. Both attach to the primary brush roller, unlike other brands that connect to a dedicated slot at the bottom of the trash can.
3. Packed system
The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and S7+ use a boxed system inside the base station, making disposal less messy.
This design is better than a bagless system for keeping things tidy.
Sure, it will cost more in the long run (due to the cost of the bag), but the health benefits outweigh it.
4. Side brush and brush roller design
There is no difference with the side brush, the design and position of the brush roller.
They both have an all-rubber side brush and a bristle-free brush roll with rubber fins that spin around, providing high-impact action.
5. Navigation
These robots use LIDAR and SLAM for navigation. Roborock products are among the most efficient and far better than any camera based robot.
The LIDAR robots move in straight lines, start running and clean the edges before moving on to the midsections.
6. Two-in-one function
Both options can use the vacuum and mop simultaneously with the pad positioned behind the brush roller.
7. Vibrating wiping pad
The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra retains the same vibration wiping pad offered on the S7+.
It is the first robot with a vibrating element in the middle.
Other brands such as the Narwal T10 and Dreame Bot W10 use two turntables, while products such as the Viomi V3 series and iRobot Braava use the Y-style.
All three systems are different, but they are all equally effective in removing stains.
I don’t see much difference. An added advantage with the Roborock design is that there is less wear on the wheel unit because it doesn’t have to go back and forth.
8. Wiper Lift
In addition to the vibrating mopping pad, another similarity is the mop lift feature – part of the VibraRise technology.
Raising the mop indicates the height of the pad when sensors detect the carpet.
It’s not bulletproof as it raises the pad only 1.5mm above the surface, but it’s enough for a medium pile rug.
9. App compatibility
The S7 MaxV Ultra and S7+ are compatible with the Roborock app.
It is one of the best apps (in my opinion) with its features and ease of use.
Both models can save up to four levels of maps with the same basic features.
There are some slight differences, but they are related to the features, for example, avoiding obstructions and washing the pillow.
10. Battery and runtime
Another similarity we will look at is the battery. Both products use the same 5200mAh lithium-ion battery, which is a staple in all next-generation products. Roborock Products.
Roborock batteries are not like rumbas-Prone to discharge when left unplugged.
Differences between Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and S7 +
Now, let’s have a look at the differences between these smart robotic vacuums. The Roborock S7+ is an excellent product, but the S7 MaxV Ultra takes it to the next level.
1. Washing pad + self-discharging base [S7 MaxV Only]
The most significant difference between these robots is the redesigned base station with the added cushion washing function.
The addition of two water tanks as well as a cushion cleaning mechanism increased its effect – its biggest downside.
Surprisingly, the coarse element that Roborock uses to effectively rub the pad keeps the pad clean!

Removes most stains and is more effective than Narwal or Dreame Bot.

2. Obstacle avoidance [S7 MaxV Ultra only]
Roborock has reintroduced the obstacle avoidance feature on the S7 MaxV that was absent on the S7+.
But with an improved algorithm, a laser, plus an LED to complement the dual-lens camera.
These upgrades have improved the S7 MaxV’s obstacle avoidance capabilities, especially with pet poo, coiled wires, and small toys.
I tested S6 Max V Broadly speaking, the S7 MaxV is much better in every aspect.
3. Base station size
The addition of the cleaning pad feature significantly increased the S7 MaxV base station.
You can see in the photo above that its berth is much larger with the water tanks and the bag lined.
4. 3D Maps and Matrix [S7 MaxV Only]
Roborock has introduced some new features in the S7 MaxV.
The 3D map is one of my favorite things, as it provides consumers with a different perspective by viewing the layout of your house.
The Matrix is another variation that has more detailed graphics, but this is only available on iOS devices.
Application Features
Next, we will look at the application features of these products, their similarities and differences.
1. Live Map [Both]
We’ll take a look at the live map, showing the state of the bot in the cleaning cycle.
One difference is the 3D map on the S7 MaxV Ultra, which gives consumers a different perspective on viewing the cleaning cycle.
2. Save map [Both]
Another similarity is the map save feature, and both models can save up to four map levels.
Consumers can add multiple invisible walls, no-go areas, and no-entry areas.
3. Obstacle ID [S7 MaxV only]
The S7 MaxV camera sensor unlocks the obstacle identifier on the map.
It is very accurate in recognizing objects such as wires, pet feces, pedestals, etc.
4. Rapid Mapping [S7 MaxV only]
Another feature that Roborock has introduced is the quick mapping feature – something I was hoping they’d add to their product.
It’s a quick way to create the map without the robot going into every nook and cranny.
This feature takes advantage of LIDAR’s 360-scanning ability to map areas.
5. Live cam view [S7 MaxV only]
An additional feature with the S7 MaxV’s dual viewfinder is the live camera view, acting as a CCTV camera, so consumers can see what the robot is seeing.
There are obviously privacy concerns, but Roborock addresses them by using encryption and pattern security to deter hackers.
The microphone icon represents the next feature that we are going to discuss.
6. Intercom
Consumers can use the Roborock’s onboard microphone to communicate with anyone close to the robot.
7. Containment
Both bots have containment features to prevent bots from entering restricted areas.
Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and S7+ have an invisible wall, restricted area, and mop-free zone.
The invisible wall acts as a virtual wall, preventing the bot from passing it (like a wall).
Blocked and Uncleaned Zones are similar in preventing the robot from entering a fixed area.
It is excellent for blocking areas such as the living room or pet litter area.
8. Maintenance [Both]
The S7 MaxV and S7+ have a maintenance tab, which helps consumers monitor the condition of various consumable components such as the side brush, brush roller, pouch, side brush, etc.
It is one way of determining when to replace or clean these components.
In my S7 MaxV review, I mentioned that Roborock does not notify consumers when a bag is full, but the Maintenance tab tells people when to replace it.
It’s not a foolproof method, but this feature does at least give a heads up for verification.
9. Vacuum and mop settings
The S7 MaxV and S7+ allow consumers to change the settings of the vacuum cleaner and mop.
One difference is that the S7 MaxV has a fifth power setting, max+, but the airflow is the same as the S7+’s max setting.
So it is not a factor.
However, both are similar to the other settings, particularly the mop settings.
10. Cleaning history
The cleaning history shows the previous cycle of the bot and the corresponding map levels.
It also displays the area, time, and total cleaning cycles, and acts like a vehicle odometer.
Air Flow Comparison
Judging by the information on the Roborock website, the S7 MaxV doubles the S7 + by 5100 Pa (versus 2500 Pa).
Not all brands use Pascals as a power meter, so I use an anemometer to measure airflow as the brush rolls.
I feel this metric provides a more accurate measure of how the robot vacuum is performing, especially on the carpet.

There is not much difference between these options. The contrast isn’t much, so I wasn’t surprised by how close it came to cleaning experiences.
So Pascal’s anisotropy does not carry much weight in airflow tests.
Next, we’ll look at how these bots navigate, and there isn’t much difference.
They will both move in straight lines, starting running and cleaning the edges before moving towards the middle parts.
Roborock products are highly effective for mobility, even in tight areas.
So there is not much difference between the S7 MaxV and the S7+, except for the snag avoidance found in the S7 MaxV.
The camera, laser, and LED are an upgrade over the S6 MaxV, giving the S7 MaxV better obstacle recognition capabilities.
Efficiency comparison
There is not much difference in the navigational efficiency of these robots. Both will run their course faster than either of their competitors.
Roborock has a perfect algorithm, and the LIDAR sensors provide it with a precise tool for scanning its surroundings.
It is excellent, especially in confined spaces, and can traverse even in complex layouts.

Next, we will look at how these robots perform in cleaning various debris on hard floors and carpets.
These robots have been tested on different types of debris such as Quaker oats, coffee grounds, pet droppings, coffee grounds and sand.

The above results are very close and confirm the airflow tests.
Choosing between these options should not be limited to cleaning performance as both will get a high percentage of hard floors and carpets.
Other factors to consider, such as whether you need a cushion cleaning feature, avoid obstructions, or want something cheaper and more compact.
Which option is better on hardwood floors?
One of the metrics I use to determine the capabilities of a robot vacuum on hard floors is how much sand it picks up.
Both snapped up in the high ’90s.

You can see in both the shots before and after the run that there is almost no sand left after the run.
Sand is one of the hardest-to-clean items, regardless of surface, and these results speak volumes for the S7 MaxV and S7+’s capabilities.
Edge cleaning comparison
The circular frame of these robots limits their ability to clean this area.

Among the round-framed robots I tested, the Ecofax T8 AIVI It is one of the most efficient options with the dual side brush system.
Hair wrap comparison
One additional feature of the S7 MaxV and S7+ is the bristle brush stroke.
This upgrade is demonstrated in the hair wrap test. No, it’s not perfect, but it’s one of the best options for cleaning hair.

The S7 MaxV fared better, rising by 100% and 63% in the five-inch and seven-inch tests.
Here’s the litter box after trying the five inches.
It didn’t do well with strands longer than seven inches, but the 63% pick-up is one of the best robotic vacuums for cleaning hair.

Which option is better for carpet?
Both options had roughly the same results with deep cleaning sand (78.85% vs. 77.95%).
These results are not surprising because these robots have the same airflow at the highest setting.
Scan comparison
Thanks to the central vibration element, both robots are excellent at spot cleaning.
There isn’t much difference with these options other than the cushion cleaning feature found on the S7 MaxV.
I tested both on different stains like juice and red wine stains.
This is the before and after S7+ with red wine.

The Roborock S7 MaxV achieved similar results with red wine.
and Coke stains.
Both options are excellent at removing stains, but I wouldn’t recommend juice or red wine stains because neither can pick up the liquid.
The S7 MaxV and S7+ will pull a wet pad onto the surface just in their core.
One difference is that the S7 MaxV has a pre-soak cycle where it reverses to the base station and its pad is pre-rinsed before powering on.
The S7+ does not have this feature, and consumers will have to soak the pad under running water, shake off the excess and then reinstall it.
Runtime comparison
These robots use the same 5200mAh lithium-ion battery with the same stated runtime of 180 minutes.
The good news with these products is that the 180-minute claim is usable due to the excellent agitation.
Even in his quiet place, he will pick up debris.

One additional advantage of airflow robot vacuums is the low noise, especially at low settings.
I use the sound meter for both products to measure noise from a few meters away.

The Roborock S7 MaxV is quieter on the lower settings (Quiet, Balanced and Turbo) but noisier on the maximum setting.
However, the difference is not huge (at least) for the lower settings.
Again, there is no need to use the max or max + setting unless you need to deep clean the carpet.
maintenance
All robot vacuums require a level of TLC to operate efficiently for years. Even more so for a smart robotic vacuum cleaner with lots of moving parts.
I will enumerate the components that will need to be cleaned or checked and the frequency.
- brush roll: The Roborock bristle-free brush is more durable, but needs to be brushed once a week to remove any accumulated hair or dust.
- Side brush: The all-rubber side brush on the S7 MaxV and S7+ offers better durability. Use a clean cloth to wipe. Don’t forget to remove any hair around the base to prevent unnecessary rubbing.
- Dustbin: Empty the trash after each run (for options without the base station).
- Automatic empty bag: If you purchased a variant from the base station, check the bag visually if it is full. Another option is to check the Maintenance tab in the app for the condition of the bag.
- Wheels: Wipe the wheels and side wheels with a slightly damp towel to remove dirt stuck to the surface.
- base station port: Ensure that the port connected to the brush roller to empty the trash is clear of obstructions.
- Dirty water tank: Empty the dirty water tank as soon as it is full. Use a sprayer to clean it up to remove any sticky residue.
- fall sensors: Clean it once a month with a clean microfiber cloth or cotton swab to prevent an error code from triggering and disabling the robot.
- Pillow wash brush: Check the brush for any debris stuck to it, and use a soft-bristled brush to clean.
- Wipe cloth: For S7+ owners, remove the pad to clean it under running water after each run. Gently rub the cloth to remove dirt stuck to the surface. Roborock S7 MaxV Plus owners won’t need to do this often since the Pad Wash feature does a decent job of cleaning the pad.
- robot vacuum body: Use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the outside of the robot to remove any dust and fingerprints that have accumulated on the surface. Do this step under the robot to clean up any dust buildup.
