With the XV Pro, Neato gives homeowners the opportunity to own a robot vacuum to clean their homes more efficiently than most robots on the market due to its laser-guided navigation system.
At a price that won’t break the bank.
XV Signature Pro is Neato’s newest and most powerful robot vacuum to date.
Update: Neato has since updated its product lineup and released new products like the BotVac and the newer Botvac D series. These new models offer better cleaning performance and mobility.
CNet liked it, saying it was one of the smartest robots they tested and the cleaning performance was better compared to the more expensive Roomba 790.
It has a HEPA filter (this works for those with allergies) and comes with two types of brushes – one for hard floors and one for carpet.
Note that there is no remote in the package but you can schedule it so it’s not a big deal.
Just a heads up, extended warranties are offered for this product, and there are two options – a 2-year and 1-year extended warranty, something to consider for added peace of mind. This extended warranty is also available for the 790.

What do you expect from the Neato XV Signature Pro?
In the middle of the Signature Pro is a raised box that houses the navigation system that uses a laser to map corners and avoid obstacles.
Unlike iRobot which bumps into things, Neato avoids it completely and if it bumps into something it won’t be difficult.
- Use magnetic strips as a containment system
- Has allergen filtration
- The manufacturer claims to have the strongest suction among robot vacuums
- Scheduling is available (once a day, seven days a week)
- Comes with two brushes for hardwood and carpet
- It can pick up pet hair

Mobility
Unlike the iRobot that works with a random pattern, Neato has a more predictable pattern that starts by drawing the contour, working on the edges and then moving inward in a straight pattern back and forth until you’re done with the room.
To give you a visual look at this video…
The laser is used to map the size of the room and avoid obstacles that you don’t run into. When the battery needs to be recharged, it will return to the charging station and pick up where it left off – a great feature that increases efficiency but unfortunately not all manufacturers have it.
Firmware upgrades are also available through the USB port.
Consumers report better corner and edge cleaning with firmware upgrade 3.2. It can take some time to clean an entire room compared to iRobot.
As with all robot vacuums, leave at least 3 feet of open space around the charging station to avoid docking issues.
Will he clean the stairs?
no.
scheduled cleaning
You can schedule this robot to independently clean your house once a day up to 7 times a week. Rescheduling is also available if needed.
Shipping time
Neato does not specify how long it takes to charge.
Some consumers say you will need to charge this overnight. But usually with bots, it’s best to keep them connected.
Filter cleaning
HEPA filters should be replaced every two to three months, since they trap allergens.
Filters in the Signature Series Pro can be washed with running water, and some use compressed air or a hand vacuum to clean. I discourage the use of compressed air as it damages the makeup of the filter, which traps allergens.
After each cleaning cycle, empty the dirt basket so it doesn’t clog. It lets you know if it needs to be emptied.
the show length
There is no official number from Neato but consumers have provided some comments about it. Some ran less than 20 minutes and the longest was about two hours on a single charge.
Customer Service and Warranty
While there was a complaint about no refunds after a 30-day window (for Amazon subscribers), consumers were mostly happy with the after-sales service, and Neato will send you a replacement bot if it is found to be a defective unit, just make sure to keep all documents in place.
Executing floor cleaning
Essentially all Neato robots use suction power enhanced by a motorized brush to pick up dust, dander, pet hair, and even grains from the exposed floor.
While it doesn’t have any corner brushes like the iRobot which makes edge cleaning a little questionable, its shape makes it a better fit for getting into corners even though there’s no dirt here either.

Some owners reported that it picked up more dirt than the Roomba 560 (considered an older model).
Carpet cleaning
With good suction power and a beater rod, it will work great on low to medium pile carpets but will struggle on thicker carpets.
Many people were satisfied with its performance on this surface due to the combination of good suction power and a motorized brush.
Again, it will not clean the edges or corners very well.
carpets
It’s fine to move from the hard floor to the carpet but it may not pick up dirt from the corners of the carpet, especially the thicker ones.
Here’s a demo of how it went from the tiled floor to the thicker rug (in my opinion)…
Pet hair removal
It works well for cleaning pet hair on both hard floors and carpets because it has a motorized brush but remember to brush it regularly when there is buildup in order to maintain long-term performance.

Customer Reviews
This product was just released early this year, so there are not many reviews available and there are currently over 40 reviews. Most were happy with their purchase, and interestingly enough, a lot of those buyers also own an iRobot (although it is an older model), and they preferred it over the former because it has good suction power and works with a more predictable pattern plus doesn’t bump into furniture as much.
There have only been a few pet owners who have reviewed this product but they have all been pleased with how it removes pet hair on hard floors and carpets.
Complaints here mostly focus on two things – short battery life and its tendency to malfunction.
The first problem was mostly due to lemon units from the manufacturer, again like I said in my reviews before, when you receive it always put it through its paces – you have a 30 day window where you can send this unit back for a refund.
The second problem was due to the position of the laser as it sits about 3-4 inches above the ground, and can’t see what’s on top or what’s underneath, so if something is in front of the robot less than 3 inches, it wins. “I see it” and it will either move or stumble trying to navigate.
The dangling fabric may also cause problems, so it would be best to fold it out of the way.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy this from amazon but it won’t be new. It will cost you over $600 because you won’t buy directly from Amazon.
The best option in my opinion is to buy any of the Neato BotVac series robots which have the latest navigation technology and battery that will clean and last longer.
Conclusion
For busy homeowners who want to get some help and have some extra cash to spend on this type of technology, this would be a great alternative to the more expensive iRobot 790 because it’s a few hundred dollars cheaper and has better suction.
It doesn’t have a removal or side brush but since you can do it directly on the robot itself, this shouldn’t be a big deal.
The lack of a side brush compromises its performance on edges and corners and because it has stronger suction – runtime suffers, expect about an hour of runtime or less on a single charge.
