Mova L600 Review: An Affordable Smart Robot Vacuum

Posted on May 13, 2022May 23, 2022 by admin

Buying a smart robot vacuum cleaner, in most cases, requires spending a significant portion of money. Sure, there are cheap versions, but from what I’ve experienced, most of them lack basic features (eg virtual wall and restricted areas) to take full advantage of the smart navigation features.

Enter the Mova L600 – one of the least expensive LIDAR-based vacuum cleaners with advanced features such as saving maps, virtual wall and restricted areas. But the question is, how good is that? I’ve spent the past few days testing to find out.

Budget robot with laser sensor

Mova L600

Mova L600 Review

Mova aims to challenge the likes of Roborock and Roomba with their smart robot – the L600. It’s a product similar to Roborock in terms of features and compatibility with the Xiaomi app, so expect an excellent app experience. Mobility and lower-than-usual cost are its main strengths, thanks to the laser sensor and SLAM. The cleaning performance is a mixed bag – it did manage to clean some debris, but not so well on others.

Introduction to Mova L600

Mova is a newcomer in the field but aims to challenge the increasing influx of brands in the low to mid-priced smart robots category.

The L600 is the first laser-based robot with LIDAR and SLAM, and unlocks advanced features that primarily appear in high-end options.

First, let’s quickly go over the basic features starting with its design.

Design and interface

Mova L600 top view

The L600, like most LIDAR-based robots, has a round frame with the laser sensor near the front.

Underneath this sensor is a top-mounted door that detects the dustbin when opened. Mova includes a brush cleaning tool with a blade, presumably to detangle the hairs on the brush. Fortunately, you won’t need this much because the brush is easy to clean.

It has a two-button interface on top of the LIDAR sensor, but since this bot is compatible with the Xiaomi app, I doubt you’ll use it often.

display under it

Mova L600 bottom view

The robot’s heart reveals this layout.

It contains one clip-on side brush with bristle tips and one bundled brush enclosed in two side wheels.

Mova L600 Combo Brush

Behind the main brush, you will see jagged lines of It has a 270ml electronic water tankMova L600 water tank included in the depth.

Trash container design and capacity

Mova L600 trash can

This robot has Top Mount Waste Bin 570ml, which is one of the highest capacity options available. Other brands I’ve tested are between 420 and 480ml, so increasing the capacity reduces trips to the trash.

The front door is wide but narrow. Getting rid of dirt is easy. However, make sure you have an empty container wide, so it doesn’t spill over the sides.

And behind it is a washable HEPA filter that you will have to replace every two or three months.

Water tank

Mova L600 water tank

It doesn’t look big, but the Mova L600 water tank has a decent capacity – up to 270 ml that compete with other brands like Roborock S7 and S5 Max.

The electronic nature gives users more control over the flow of water. Unlike gravity tanks that constantly leak water until you empty it, the electronic tank doesn’t release water unless you turn on the robot.

It comes with one microfiber pad, but you can buy more if you plan on using this extensively for wiping.

How does the Mova L600 navigate?

Navigation will be efficient thanks to the laser sensor (or LIDAR) and the SLAM algorithm.

For those unfamiliar, SLAM is the same software that driverless cars use. The use of a laser sensor provides accuracy and the ability to operate even in dark conditions.

Users can monitor the bot’s location (in real time) through the app. It’s one of my favorite features as I can quickly check where the robot is and see if it has been cleaned.

Like most LIDAR-based robots, it begins by cleaning the edges before moving toward the middle parts in neat rows.

Mobility is very efficient, and not once did it get stuck on the legs of the office chair in my home office.

Does the Mova L600 wear out furniture?

No no. The algorithm is smart enough, so the robot slows down and does not hit obstacles hard. It’s better than the Roomba product in this aspect, plus it’s a few hundred dollars cheaper.

Application Features

Mova L600 App Interface

The Mova L600 is compatible with the Xiaomi app, and if you’re familiar with Xiaomi, it’s one of the best robot vacuum apps in the business.

It is not surprising that Xiaomi specializes in smartphones, so app development will not be too difficult for them.

Users will enjoy a plethora of features from the L600 app, let’s go through them one by one.

1. Live Map

Mova L600 Live Map

When you click on the L600 tab on the main interface, you will see a snapshot of the map. If you haven’t run the bot yet, this space will be empty. But once the bot is on, a map is drawn, unlocking other features that we’ll talk about below.

The live map feature helps greatly in locating the bot if it fires an error code. You can find it instantly through the app.

2. Containment

Fit Mova L600

This bot has the “Big Three” containment options – virtual wall (or invisible wall), restricted area cleaning (or restricted areas), and restricted areas. These help keep the robot away from restricted areas, and most homes have these areas.

3. Savings Map

Another useful feature is the option to save maps. Unfortunately, for the L600, it is unique – only one map level. I’m not sure why Mova doesn’t provide at least custom, but it should be the bare minimum for most robotic vacuums.

The app is smart enough to accurately zoning areas in my room, at least for my home, so I don’t have to do it manually.

Users can add multiple virtual walls and containment areas and save them to the map. Room naming is available, but only from the given list – custom names are not available.

4. Selective room cleaning

Mova L600 Selective Room Cleaning

Another benefit of LIDAR is (option) cleaning a specific room on the map, which is called selective room cleaning. This is very useful inside large homes where some rooms are vacant at certain times during the day. You can use this in conjunction with scheduling to clean these areas.

Users can also arrange the cleaning order of each room by clicking on these areas accordingly on the map.

5. Clean areas

Mova: 600 cleaning areas

While selective room cleaning targets specific rooms, zoned cleaning allows users to select smaller areas. It’s like spot cleaning, but with more precision and convenience as the robot goes to that area and cleans it. There is no need to physically carry the robot into place.

6. Unlimited scheduling

Mova L600 scheduled cleaning

One of my favorite app features, regardless of brand, is unlimited scheduling. This aspect adds a layer of comfort, especially for busy people. I like that you can schedule as many rides per day as possible. Combine that with the above average capacitance. You will have cleaner floors.

7. Clean up the history

Mova L600 cleaning history

This tab displays previous cleanups as well as the total space cleaned, how long, and how often they were used.

8. Service schedule

Mova L600 service schedule

It gives heads up when changing components such as the side brush, main brush and HEPA filter. Please note that this is a time dependent system, so it is best to check these parts periodically to check if they need cleaning or replacement.

How much power does the Mova L600 have?

I would say the airflow is a strong point of this robot, with 17 CFM at the highest setting. Compared to other robot vacuums in its price segment (on average), it has higher scores – better than the DreameTech D9, which is its direct competitor.

Here are the full results

  • silent: 9.68 cubic feet per minute
  • Basic: 11.33 cubic feet per minute
  • strong: 12.75 cubic feet per minute
  • Turbo: 17 cubic feet per minute

However, you will notice a file big gap between The settings are powerful and turbo, which means users have to use the maximum to get decent results on carpet. Hard or regular floors will suffice, but don’t expect to clean heavy debris as well as sand.

Don’t expect this robotic vacuum cleaner heavy dutynot because of the lack of airflow, but because of the brush design and quirks of navigation (this was explained earlier).

cleaning performance

The Mova L600 has extensively tested on various debris such as Quaker oats, coffee grounds, quinoa, pet litter, sand and hair.

First, here are the overall results.

  • Total: 87.43%
  • Solid ground: 98.14%
  • Sand on the hard floor: 93.9%
  • carpet: 97.5%
  • deep cleaning: 66.65%

Compared to other brands in its price range, it Slightly below averagebut low due to poor results on sand in hard floor and deep cleaning testing.

He. She Only 93.9% selectedThat sounds high but it isn’t. Other brands picked up Above 97% or more.

Hard floor cleaning results

  • Quaker Oats: 98.6%
  • Cafe floors: 99.4%
  • Quinoa: 97.6%
  • pet litter: 96.2%

The L600 did its best work on hard floors, picking up an average of 98.14%but I’m a little disappointed with the result because it could have done better.

There are two factors holding it back. The first are those front panels hinder somehow debris path. The second is wide radius which lacks overlap. I’m not sure why Mova had to add these panels, as they’ve been shown to not help with vacuuming at all.

Other brands like Ecofax T8 AIVI Get it and it doesn’t perform as well as Roborock Despite the brutal airflow.

Edge cleaning test

Mova L600 Edge Cleaning

Unfortunately, the round bezel and narrow brush hamper its ability to clean up edges. I picked up a decent amount, but it wouldn’t match a two-sided side brush robot vacuum like the Ecovacs T8 or ILIFE A10.

hair wrap

Hair in trash Mova L600

I tested this robot to resist tangles from five and seven inch strands of hair. Here are the results.

This amount of hair coiled onto the brush after the five-inch test.

This much hair is all wrapped up on the Mova L600 brush after a 5-inch test

And that’s after the seven-inch test.

This much hair wrapped on the Mova L600 after testing 7 inches

  • 5 inch braids: 36% inside the trash, 64% About the brush
  • 7 inch threads: 22% inside the trash, 78% About the brush

These numbers show that you will need to clean the brush regularly from winding hair on it.

Fortunately, detangling the hair will not be difficult thanks to the fins that prevent the hair from wrapping tightly. The hair is easy to pull off, plus the detachable tip caps make it easy to remove hair from the hubs.

Carpet cleaning

Next, we’ll look at how well the L600 can clean low and mid-range carpets.

Low stack results

Mova L600 results in low lint

  • Quaker Oats: 97.2%
  • Cafe floors: 94.8%
  • Quinoa: 99.8%
  • pet litter: 98.2%

Despite the design and navigational quirks, the L600 performed well on low-pile carpet, mostly in the high ’90s. It’s decent on that surface, obviously not as good as the Roomba 981 or the S9, but it’s a decent fit for a robot vacuum at this price point.

Mid-stack results

Mova L600 mid-stack results

  • Quaker Oats: 97.6%
  • Cafe floors: 95%
  • Quinoa: 99.8%
  • pet litter: 97.8%

Mid-stack results are close to lower lint scores—slightly better with ground coffee cleaning, but given the design flaws, I’d say they’re above average.

Once again, navigation quirks somewhat reduce its capabilities, and we hope that Mova will address this in future app rollouts.

Deep cleaning results

To check how well the Mova L600 cleans the inline stuff, I rub 100g of sand on a medium-pile carpet. I picked up an average of 66.65% in two tests. It’s slightly below average compared to other brands in this category, but about the same number as the more expensive Ecovacs T8 with a similar brush design.

How good is the Mova L600 wiper?

One aspect that has been underrated about the L600 is its scanning ability. I tested it on red wine stains with the wiping pad dry on the highest setting, and here are the before and after photos for the two passes (after the first two passes).

Mova L600 scan before and after photos after the first round

The second is a two-pass running.

Mova L600 scan before and after photos after second run

And the third pass.

Mova L600 scan before and after photos after the third round

It did not remove stains after the first two runs. You can see lines of it on the surface. Since this bot lacks any excitement, it’s hard to expect it to do anything more than light-duty tasks.

Another factor to consider is the surface after the third round. It was not clean. You won’t see it in the pictures, but there are visible residues and mirrors on the surface.

Since red wine contains enzymes, it takes more than just swiping a wet pad over the surface to clean it and leaving a clean surface.

How noisy is the Mova L600?

I used an audio meter to measure noise levels – the results were a mixed bag.

  • silent: 60.2 dB
  • Basic: 64.1 dB
  • strong: 66.3 dB
  • Turbo: 71.3 dB

It wasn’t noisy at the two lower settings and didn’t break through the 65dB mark. However, raising the power will result in higher noise levels – more than 70 dB in turbo mode.

How long is the Mova L600 uptime?

L600 Li-ion battery 5200 mAh With a claimed run time of up to 110 minutes on the lowest setting. Unfortunately, the air flow in this mode will not be enough to clean debris other than dust. You’ll have to use the other three settings to pick up more stubborn dirt, which eats into runtime.

Fortunately this bot has recharged and resumed so uptime won’t be much of a concern as it will resume cleaning after recharging.

What comes in the box?

  1. Robot Mova L600
  2. one side brush
  3. Water tank
  4. Microfiber pillow (one piece only)
  5. Charging base and stopper

Parts Availability

Since Mova is brand new, don’t expect much from parts availability. Most components are only available through the Mova Amazon storefront. Users can only purchase things like filters, brushes, and brush caps. More mysterious parts such as the battery or side wheels are not available yet.

maintenance

I will summarize the various components that need to be cleaned or replaced for this robot to run smoothly.

  1. Combo brush: This part is the most commonly used component of any robotic vacuum, and will require constant TLC. Check at least once a week for hair and debris that has accumulated around it and on the axles.
  2. Side brush: Over time, the hair will wrap around the base and tentacles. Be sure to remove them to avoid unnecessary friction.
  3. Dustbin: Empty it after each run (preferably). Press the HEPA filter against a hard object to dislodge the dirt inside the folds. If you have a portable vacuum cleaner, use it to clean the debris stuck there.
  4. side wheels: Wipe the side wheels and caster wheels with a clean, dry microfiber towel to remove any contaminants sticking to them.
  5. Water tank: Do not leave water inside if you do not use the wipe function for a long time.
  6. microfiber pillow: Wash it after each wipe to prevent any germs from showing on the surface.
  7. Sensors: A set of sensors are located around and under the robot. Use a clean microfiber to clean the drip sensors at least once a month to prevent the error code from flashing.

Does the Mova L600 offer excellent value?

The Low introductory cost This smart robot vacuum cleaner makes it a compelling choice if spending more than $400 on a competing brand is too much.

No, it won’t have the same cleaning results as the more expensive options, but it’s more than enough for everyday tasks, especially on hard surfaces.

5 reasons to buy the Mova L600

  1. Affordable smart robot vacuum cleaner: One of the least expensive options with laser navigation and high-end features (virtual wall and containment boxes).
  2. Excellent application experience: Its compatibility with the Xiaomi app immediately checks this box.
  3. Decent surface cleaning: Despite the low overall score, it’s pretty good, or should I say above average, at cleaning surface debris (except for sand).

  5. Large litter box: The 570ml capacity means you don’t have to empty it as often.

Verdict: A good budget alternative to expensive brands

Prior to testing, I had concerns about this robot vacuum. I didn’t know what to expect. The results are not striking, but they are a file Solid robot vacuum that works decently Enough to be worth your time.

Don’t expect much from him as he is It won’t outperform brands like Roomba or Roborock. But for the low cost, it does more than enough if you don’t mind the issues you mentioned.

Mova could improve their product further by removing the panels and tightening the navigation, but only time will tell if they will listen or not.
