The Roomba 770 allows pet owners to keep up with their pets twice a year by repeatedly removing pet hair from the floor without feeling tired or complaining.
Allergy sufferers will appreciate this because it has a HEPA filter.
iRobot is one of the innovators in the industry and has been around since 2002 when they sold their first Roomba for $200, and since then over 8 million units have been sold.
The Roomba 770 in this review is not the best model of its kind. But they both have similar features and this costs $100 less.
According to iRobot, the 770 is smarter…
- more powerful
- It has the best dirt detection
- The dirt box is bigger
- Longer battery life (in terms of uptime and service life) than previous models
- Better seal around the gearbox so dirt doesn’t get in
Previous models had this problem where dirt would find its way into the gearbox, permanently damaging it and rendering it useless.
But to what extent the 770 has been improved, let’s find out.
Quick look at the features
- Floor cleaning is done in 3 stages on carpet, tile, linoleum and wood floors
- It will self-adjust according to the surface it is cleaning and move from one type to another without any interference
- The advanced cleaning head captures more dust, pet hair, allergens and other types of dirt
- Dual HEPA filters block 0.3µg of allergens from re-entering the atmosphere
- It moves back and forth over the areas it detects as having more dirt
- Trash indicator lets you know when to empty it
- In-flight scheduling allows you to schedule cleaning up to 7 times a week
- iAdapt technology uses multiple sensors to avoid falling over stairs, detects the dirtiest areas and avoids obstructions such as furniture to efficiently clean the entire room
- Soft-touch molded bumper protects furniture from scratches
- The holder handle allows users to hold this with one hand
- Self-adjusts according to the surface being cleaned
- Easy to use and blank
- self docking
- Comes with an extra pair of HEPA filters
- Dirt box indicator lets you know when to empty
- You can schedule cleaning alone up to 7 times per week
- Multiple rooms can be cleaned
- Moves back and forth over dirty areas
- Short enough to clean the areas under the bed and table
- small dust box
- You need to clean this often to maintain peak performance
What to expect from the iRobot Roomba 770?
The Roomba 770 comes with an improved dirt-detection system called “Dirt Detect Series 2” that shows up on the most contaminated areas of the floor – and moves back and forth if it detects that the surface has more dirt.
At the bottom, two brushes that are driven by motors of opposite rotation are used as a broom that picks up all kinds of dirt such as dust and pet hair plus it has a small edge brush on the side that works on the edges.
Do you have allergy and concern about dust? This robot has two HEPA filters that can filter fine dust as small as 0.3 microns.
To give you an overview, so to speak of how the Roomba navigates, here’s a long-exposure shot taken by signaltheorist.com
Will he clean the stairs?
Unfortunately, it won’t clean the stairs.
You can schedule this robot to clean your house independently once a day, 7 days a week.
Attachments and accessories
It comes with an extra set of HEPA filters, two brush cleaning tools, two virtual walls that require 2-C batteries not included in the package, a battery charger, a remote control (AA batteries not included), a self-charging home base and an instructional DVD.
It will take about 3 hours for this Roomba to charge. iRobot recommends keeping the charging station connected. The only time you’ll separate this is if you’re going on vacation and aren’t using it for a long time.
The light on top of the robot will turn yellow if the battery is low and back to green if there is still too much.
Although the virtual walls don’t have any indicators that let you know if the batteries are running out.
The instruction manual recommends cleaning the filter after each use for optimal cleaning.
iRobot says this robot will run for up to 90 minutes and consumers say that number is very accurate.
The robot comes with a 1-year warranty and the battery with a 6-month warranty.
It works great on bare floors like hardwood, tile, and linoleum because of the motorized brush and edge brush that will pick up most of the dust and pet hair on that surface.
Keep in mind that before using this, all potential hazards such as wires, rug tassels, or spills should be removed.
According to reviews, it has a tendency to tangle with wires and when it breaks, it must be removed manually.
Don’t expect deep cleaning performance from this, but it will still do a good job of maintenance cleans again because it has two motorized brushes and some reviews have mentioned that the brush on the side works well on carpet edges.
If you have thick carpets, the Roomba 770 may not be able to get past it – it will either get stuck trying or just move in another direction as mentioned by many consumers.
For rugs that have tassels, vacuum separately because those rugs may get stuck between the two mattresses underneath.
If threads or wires get between the brushes, it has an anti-tangle system that automatically shuts off and rotates in the opposite direction to free itself.
Also if you have a really dark carpet or rug, the slope detection sensors may think it’s an open space and not go to clean it.
Pet hair removal
Pet owners were among the happy customers here, and many had at least 2 or 3 of them running.
Note that as with all motorized brush vacuum cleaners, these brushes should be cleaned at least once every two weeks. Although more frequent brushing may be required if your pet has longer strands of hair.
Fortunately, this comes with a brush cleaning tool that will help remove pet hair stuck on the motorized brush.

On Amazon, it has had over 300 reviews and the majority liked this robot, and the cleaning performance was satisfactory according to consumers here.
The biggest pro is the hands-free style, just schedule it and let it do its work.
It is able to clean multiple rooms and access areas under the bed and table.
But it will have some difficulty getting back to the docking station to recharge if there are things in its way.
So make sure you put everything away when it’s time to clean up.
Despite this, some consumers have complained that it seems like they don’t know where it’s going, often moving in a random pattern (and thus missing places according to some reviews) hitting furniture which results in some marks or getting stuck somewhere in the room.
A great suggestion by people was to put a rubber pad around it so it doesn’t scratch any of your furniture.
Other complaints stated that she had difficulty returning to her base. It occasionally hits the charging base out of position and runs out of battery in an attempt to come back.
One solution to this is to make sure that there are no obstructions around the charging base. Clear anything that gets in your way, such as wires.
Reviews from other sites
He left nearly a hundred reviews in the iRobot online store. The majority of them enjoyed the convenience of having a robot vacuuming for them.
Cleaning performed very well according to reviews and could be under furniture.
The noise is subjective, some say it was tolerable while others say it was too loud.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy this robot from Amazon for nearly $600. And you’ll be eligible for free 2-day shipping if you join Prime.
Extended warranties are available up to 3 years if you want extra peace of mind.
This product is great for people who don’t have the time to clean their floors themselves. And I want an assistant to do the job for them.
People with allergies should consider getting this standalone cleanser. It contains 2 HEPA filters that help trap dirt in the trash.
Remember to do your part. As with any robotic vacuum, be sure to remove all obstructions such as wires or toys to get the most out of this robot.
Like all mechanical and electronic devices, show off some TLC and it will reward you with years of trouble-free cleaning.
It won’t clean dark stairs or rugs but apart from that, it will do a decent job of keeping your home clean.
Think of this as a daily cleanser that helps prevent dirt buildup.
