Here’s another hybrid robot vacuum and mop from ILIFE called the V5 Pro.
It’s basically like the X5 which you can schedule at the exact time you want to clean and which comes with the same remote control as the A4.
This is not an upgraded version of X5. It’s V5 with more power.
Of the 9 ILIFE brooms I tested, they are the shortest (2.76 height), and they are shorter than A4. This allows it to clean areas under furniture where robots like Roomba or Dyson can’t reach.
Editor’s note: This blank is no longer in production. In its place is ILIFE V5S Pro, please click on the link to read the review.
Quick look at the features
- Capable of cleaning areas of up to 180 square meters in a single charge
- 2-in-1 function for robot vacuum and wet mop (you can use it to dry the mop and the vacuum cleaner at the same time)
- Anti-collision sensors (1 wall sensor and 5 infrared sensors) on the front bumper prevent it from hitting the furniture hard
- It is only 2.76 inches (or 7 cm) tall, so it should fit a lot of furniture
- Li-ion battery 2600 mAh working time between 120 to 150 minutes
- In normal power mode, it produces only 50 dB
- 300ml dust basket and water tank
- Comes with a microfiber mop (with stand)
- 3 cleaning modes – spot, edge and automatic cleaning modes
- Uses a brushless DC motor – it will last longer than conventional motors
- Dual vacuum and wet wipe function
- Ideal for bare floor surfaces for interval cleanings
- You can dry your mop and vacuum at the same time – great for cleaning statically charged dust
- One of the cheapest options on the market for wet mopping and it comes with a vacuum cleaner
- Scheduled cleaning is available once a day, seven days a week
- No motorized brush means carpets can’t be cleaned
- Small Dirt Bin – You’ll need to empty it often
- The cleaning mode is ineffective, so it will take a long time to clean the room
- There is no virtual wall to keep it away from restricted areas
What to expect from ILIFE V5S (or V5 Pro)
I mentioned earlier that the V5S is an upgraded X5 but it’s not. It is a different version and is actually a more powerful version of V5.
But the X5 and V5S both share the same box and water tank installed in the same location.
The ILIFE V5S comes in a white and gold color combination with a single “clean” button in the middle surrounded by two LED strips to indicate charging status.
View from the bottom
Bottom reveals mostly during completion. I have to warn you that white spots are easy to spot, so wiping it down with a clean microfiber cloth is a good idea.
Like the V5 and X5, this robot comes with two side brushes that direct dirt toward the vacuum hole in the middle.
Below that opening are rubber plates that help guide debris up toward the basket and not overshoot.
Mop and vacuum cleaner function
The V5S can wet the mop and vacuum but not at the same time because the water container and tank occupy the same space.
When the water tank is connected, the robot detects it and stops the vacuum motor.
The water tank itself is a plastic container with a hole at the top for refilling and two small holes at the bottom where the water drips.
It does not have any kind of regulator to control the water droplets but it just depends on gravity. So when using it, don’t limit yourself to using water but you can use tile cleaner or hardwood cleaner and use the robot to wipe it up for you.
Since it cannot be rubbed, you will need a separate machine to clean it. Using distilled water reduces the risk of leaving water marks.
Like all ILIFE robots, the V5S uses a random navigation pattern that simply works until it detects that the battery is low. Then he shuts down the engine and goes home.
Depending on the layout of your home, there will be instances where the robot will run out of battery before it reaches the charging station.
In a smaller home, it shouldn’t be a problem unless it has a really complex layout. In our tiny house, he manages to get back to the dock 95% of the time.
Possible road blocks include loose wires, cramped chairs, small toys such as Lego, sheets of paper and a black carpet. This will not go over the black rug.
Make sure to tidy up any loose wires and take out narrow chairs to increase the efficiency of this robot.
There is no virtual wall
Unlike the X5, the V5S doesn’t have any virtual wall that allows you to block it from areas you don’t want it to go into.
X5 is the only alternative that has a virtual wall. Although I got a comment that they have successfully used the X5’s virtual wall on other variants such as the A4, V7 and V7S.
When you look at the V5S remote control, it looks just like the A4 remote control…
They both have exactly the same layout with the max button located in the same down arrow area.
It also has a clock and plan display that represents the time and schedule. For example in X5 if you schedule 10:00 the bot will clean up after 10 hours. In V5S, it will be completely cleaned up at 10:00 AM.
See the difference?
What comes in the box
GearBest is very generous with the V5S, it comes with two extra side brushes (one left and right), two extra HEPA filters, dirt bin, water tank, docking station, power cord, cleaning brush, manual (yes it comes in English) and the V5S robot.
For the bare floor test (and the navigation test as well), I sprinkled in a good amount of oatmeal and baby powder.
If you remember one of my previous “big mess tests” with Xiaomi, I ran an almost similar test using rolled oats, baby powder, and pieces of paper.
The most efficient cleaning pattern didn’t work well on baby powder because it left a good amount of it on the floor.
This is a video recording of the navigation and cleaning test…
It is not as efficient as the MI robot vacuum but the cleaning pattern is very thorough. Note that for the last few minutes I have only used the remote to control the direction of the robot to cut the video.
Effects of a child’s force on Earth…
But after installing the microfiber mop, I was able to take it off and leave a few pieces of rolled oats.
Where did all this mess go? Good question first let me show you the dirt basket…
Even without the water tank, the mop did a pretty good job of picking up dirt…
For the price, performance is really good but lacks the polished navigation of more polished robots like the Roomba 980, Roomba 960, Dyson 360 Eye, Neato BotVac Connected, and MI Robot Vacuum.
To use the wet wipe feature, you will need to remove the dirt container and install the water tank in place.
This will automatically turn off the vacuum motor but not the side brushes as they move around the room.
This is a video I made to show you how to do it…
Remember the V5S doesn’t clean the floor, it just mops like a Swiffer but this mops do it for you.
It would be best to apply distilled water or your favorite detergent so that it does not leave water marks.
Remember that the water tank is solely based on gravity, so water will continually seep into the mop. Once you plug in the water tank, it’s best to let it run or you’ll end up with a damp mess.
In mop mode, it simply operates a similar cleaning pattern as in vacuum mode unlike the iRobot Brava 380t which has a cleaning motion and a more advanced navigation system that has GPS, but this robot only costs half the iRobot and can vacuum . So there is a trade off.

Where can I buy this?
The best place to get this affordable robot vacuum cleaner would be at Amazon. Amazon still has this alternative on sale.
If your home doesn’t have any carpet and only the floor is bare, give ILIFE V5 Pro a look. It has the same functions as the X5 without the virtual wall.
I like it because of the schedule feature where you can schedule it at the exact time you want it to clean without having to count (odd about X5). Even if it is shorter than A4, the fenders are thicker.
It lacks the advanced cleaning style of the Dyson 360 Eye or Roomba 960 but it literally costs a fraction of those two brands and you can set it and forget it just make sure you wipe all stray wires and toys to make it bigger.
