If the prospect of mopping the kitchen floor is too expensive for you, consider this tool.
Find out everything you need to know about this hardwood floor cleaner in this review.
Maintaining hard floors such as tile or wood requires a lot of work.
First, you have to vacuum regularly with a broom or vacuum cleaner.
Secondly, in high traffic areas like the kitchen where there is a lot of grease residue, you will have to get on your knees to clean up the residue.
The third and final step is to get rid of any watery residue so it doesn’t form water spots.
Today, I am going to share with you a great tool that will help you save time.
This tool is called Hoover FloorMate Deluxe (model FH40160PC). It does two things for you – scrub and absorb the extra water.
And you don’t need to get down on all fours to scrub just because of the four brushes making the hard floor for you.
This is the latest version of the Hoover FloorMate FH40010B.
The newer version is over 2 pounds lighter but does not have the vacuum function.
It has a larger water tank which means you will be able to reach more space without having to refill.
This version also comes with a separate brush for cleaning delicate wood floors.
While the older version is more versatile thanks to its vacuuming feature, this will work better in terms of deep cleaning bare floor surfaces.
Let’s see how a bare floor cleaner works in the real world.
Quick look at the features
- Contains 4 counter-rotating brushes that move bare floors to remove dirt and grime
- The double tank system contains a mixture of clean water/detergent and dirty water to avoid cross-contamination
- The 5L capacity allows you to clean more space without the need to refill
- 20 feet power cord
- It comes with two different brushes – one for delicate surfaces such as hardwood and another for rough surfaces like tile
- It has a wet/dry mode where you can turn off the brush and use only suction to reduce drying time
- Backed by a two year warranty
Positives
- 2 pounds lighter than its predecessor
- Equipped with a separate brush for a smoother surface such as hardwood
- Appropriately sized water tank (48 ounces)
- Clean Boost Control lets you apply a little extra detergent to tough stains
- It has a separate tank for clean and dirty water
Negatives
- This vacuum cleaner cannot be used – it’s just a bare floor cleaner
- Short power cord – only 20ft
- There is no rotating steering

What do you expect from the new Hoover FloorMate?
This machine is designed to deep clean hard floors. It has no void. So you will have to buy a vertical vacuum cleaner or a wand to do the vacuuming for you but I think the lack of a vacuum is a good thing.
First, it allowed more room to fit a larger water tank (48 ounces versus 32 ounces) than the older FloorMate and still had a lighter machine (by 2 pounds or more).
It comes with the same four brush system as the older FloorMate. But this time Hoover also offers a softer brush for more delicate surfaces like hardwood or laminate.
You can only use this device on sealed surfaces such as tiles.
If the floor has gaps between the water it will seep in and damage it in the long run, so check the floors before purchasing this product.
Watch the video below to see the differences between FloorMate Deluxe and the old FloorMate…
It also has a Clean Boost feature that lets you use an extra cleaner on stubborn spots.
Wet/dry mode allows you to use brush activation and suction separately or simultaneously.
bare floor performance
This machine is designed to clean exposed surfaces such as tile, hardwood, linoleum and plaster.
They are best used in high-traffic areas with a lot of dirt and grease, such as the kitchen.
Spot cleaning may take longer
However, you will struggle with dry patches as it will take a minute or so Cleaning things like ketchup stains.
If you have these stains, pre-treat them with a detergent to soften the stain before turning on the Hoover to save some time.
But for new stains or spills, it will work very well and you will not need to get on your knees and manually wipe these stains.
You can do it standing up with this device to do the scrubbing and drying for you.
In my opinion this would be a better option than the vacuum/squeegee hybrid because with the mop you will only spread the mess in other areas. This machine will suck up the mess – no need to change pads.
This is a demo from QVC…
The model shown in QVC is not exactly the same model but the performance should be similar. I just wanted to show it to you that you want to do for your reference.
If you have tile or grout, coarse brushes will work well for cleaning not only the tiled surface but the grout as well. The advantage of this machine is that it will pick up excess water so the drying time will not be long.
It won’t leave a completely dry surface afterwards but it does leave a slightly damp surface and dries faster.
carpet performance
This machine will not clean carpets. If you need to deep clean your carpet, please check out our carpet cleaning guide.

Customer Reviews
In general, consumers loved the performance of this hardwood floor cleaner. In fact, many people were surprised at how much dirt this machine was able to pick up.
Although it doesn’t have a vacuum function, it was still able to pick up some small pieces of debris like hair and really fine dust.
Pick up a lot of sticky material
To show you the filth this device has managed to capture, just take a look at some of these photos sent by customers at Amazon.
Imagine all that dirt on your hard floor surfaces sticking to your feet and/or your socks while you walk.
There are a few things consumers have shared that are worth mentioning that I thought you should know before you proceed to purchase this product.
some points
First, when using this product, you have to make time to clean your floors. Remember that this machine does not work like a vacuum cleaner. It’s a deep cleaner that scrubs and removes dirt from bare floors so you have to go slow.
Second, do not put boiling hot water inside the plastic container, as this may distort the plastic containers and damage the seals. Use only warm water as directed in the instruction manual.
large water tank
The size of the water tank is also a concern. There have been complaints that it does not fit their faucet.
We hope your kitchen has one of those tall faucets. Or you will have to fill it up inside the shower or with a hose.
Third, as far as possible, always use the “Clean” function when using the machine, which means this machine will clean when you push it away from you, and dry when you pull it back.
Remember to press the finger trigger when pushing – spray this cleaning solution onto the floor and release it when backing out.
Fourth, you can use this device on uneven surfaces as one consumer complained.
Fifth, this machine weighs 13 pounds and so whether or not it is lightweight it will be self-propelled.
Sixth, the wire is short, only 20 feet, so if you have a fairly large house, you may want to buy something with a longer wire.
Finally, compared to steam mops that have no agitation at all, this one is a better alternative if you really want to deep clean tiled or wood floors, just remember the points I mentioned earlier.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy a bare floor cleaner for less than $140. And you’ll be eligible for free 2-day Amazon shipping if you join Prime. Amazon also sells an extended warranty of up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.

This is a great option for people who want a machine that helps them clean up oil residue or liquid spills.
It gives you the option to do it on your feet so you don’t strain your back.
The four brush system does the hard work for you and leaves a relatively dry surface. So you don’t really need to take out your mop to dry. Remember to use distilled water if possible to prevent water spots from forming.
Unlike the older version that had a vacuum function, this one is purely a cleaning device. But it does its job well.
So you will still need to use a vertical vacuum cleaner or a wand to clean the dirt and dust.
Don’t expect to dry-clean the stains as you will need to pre-soak them with detergent.
Note that you will need a vertical vacuum cleaner or a wand to clean things like dust or chips.
