Keeping the carpet clean has to be one of the hardest tasks out there.
You will need a sturdy upright pole that in most cases weighs more than 15 pounds.
GTech now allows you to clean your carpet without having to carry something heavy.
The GTech AirRam solves the problems – weight and the constant need to connect and disconnect.
With the motor next to the brush, the power is right where it’s needed.
The beauty of this design is that all the weight is in the cleaning head making it more comfortable and easy to move around.
Whether your home has carpeting or a bare floor, this machine will work well on both surfaces.
It is compact enough to clean stairs.
This product is in many ways an anti-Dyson. Does not contain cyclonic filtration. Both the dirt cup and the motor are located in the same place in the base. Air is used to compress dirt into “bales”, making it easier to empty.
Their principle is really simple. Maximize efficiency by placing the motor in the base because it reduces power loss – air doesn’t have to go through a maze of hoses.
Nick Gray, owner of Gtech, claims this will provide upright performance on hard floors and carpets which is pretty bold.
I’ve searched the net for individual product reviews and these claims seem to hold up.

What do you expect from Gtech AirRam?
This uses a “professional grade” 22V lithium-ion battery and the motor consumes around 100W.
A 4-hour charge gives you approximately 40 minutes of runtime.
Gtech says this will save users roughly 210 pounds over 5 years (if you use it 20 minutes a day). In essence, it pays for itself in the long run.
You can even connect this to a computer and see how much power you have saved. It also gives you information on the amount of calories you burn while using it.
The design is pretty straight forward. It has a long handle with a power switch on the back.
It is a simple design that aims to reduce as much weight as possible. While a traditional vertical shaft would tip the scales at 15++lbs, this cordless device weighs less than 9lbs!
You won’t break your back with this.
At the bottom is the main cleaning head that houses the whisk rod and motor. With both components located side by side, power is delivered more efficiently.
At the front of the base is a long LED strip that helps illuminate the area in front of it.
Battery and runtime
The AirRam has a 22-volt Li-Ion battery that Gtech says will last up to 4 minutes. You can monitor the battery status with a four-stage LED light on it.
Attachments and accessories
No hoses or accessories included.
Shipping time
A full charge takes about 4 hours.
Filter cleaning
Emptying the dirt is simple, remove the cap where the filter is located and then remove the plastic tray containing the dirt and empty it into the trash.
Remove the filter (there are two of them) by opening the screw that holds it in place and it can then be cleaned by tapping it into the trash.
Wash the filter at least once a month, or more often if you use cleaning frequently.
Here’s a little demo I found on YouTube to show how it’s done…
Guarantee
Gtech will offer 5 years warranty for UK customers and 2 years warranty for US customers but unfortunately this does not cover the battery as it is a “consumable” item.
Update: A customer sent a message to Gray Technology basically asking if they don’t have any warranty for their battery. So they looked into it and figured it was a good idea and now their battery comes with a 2 year warranty! Kudos GTech USA!
Executing floor cleaning
The motorized brush does a very good job on all types of hard floors – tiled, hardwood, linoleum, etc., plus it’s tough enough to reach dirt on edges.
In his first demo, he tested it on his kitchen floor
Carpet cleaning
With the help of a motorized brush, it will pick up the dirt on the carpet well but when you test it on a thicker carpet, you will run into difficulty as you will need several passes to pick up the dirt under the carpet threads.
Since it relies on the brush to clean, it will drag a bit as you maneuver over this type of surface if you’re going against the weave.
Here’s a head-to-head comparison between Electrolux straight and GTech …
Surprisingly, the AirRam performed better in the upright position, picking up all the sand in just a few passes, and the Electrolux gave an older but wired-up model and increased power, so the results were still impressive.
Edge cleaning
Gtech engineers are able to extend the brush roll to the edges because the belt that moves it is in the middle. This feature helps to better vacuum the edges.
cleaning stairs
It’s over 40 inches long but a little over 7 pounds so it’s light enough to carry around and move around stairs even though it can be a bit awkward.
Pet hair cleaning
The bar beater excels at picking up pet hair on carpets and bare floors, but remember that with all vacuums equipped with this, some will get stuck to the brush – just brush it regularly to maintain performance.

Customer Reviews
So far, 15 people have left their reviews on Amazon, leaving only 1 person to rate it 2 stars – he was mainly concerned about the battery, how long it would last because replacement batteries cost about $80 – the price of a cordless vacuum!
Other consumers were happy with the performance, suction power, uptime, and maneuverability but didn’t like how noisy it was.
Reviews from other sites
Amazon.co.uk
Nearly 300 people have left a review on Amazon UK, many of them positive.
I’ve noticed that a lot of seniors with older products appreciated how this made cleaning easier for them because it was light and swivel which meant they didn’t have to bend over too much to move this.
The power was enough for most consumers here. Colonel Taylor commented on this “Ram Air picks up a lot more fuzz and litter, much more than any other vacuum cleaner I’ve used in my life.”
A lot of the complaints were about noise and hair stuck to the brush coil and some complaints about the lemon units found in most consumer electronics products as there will be a percentage of bad units coming off the assembly line.
JohnLewis.com
Johnlewis.com is a British-based online retailer, so it comes as no surprise that it has over 170 reviews because Gtech is a British brand, so Brits will be sponsoring their own product.
The majority of them were so pleased with the performance on both carpets and hard floors that some even described it as the best cordless vacuum cleaner.
There were a number of seniors over 50 who would buy this because it was light and not wireless.
LakeLand.com
Like JohnLewis.com, LakeLand is an e-commerce site in Britain and 26 people have left their comments here.
Among them were people with back pain who didn’t want to carry a heavy vertical vacuum cleaner whenever they needed to clean.
They appreciated that it was wireless and that the uptime was good enough to clean their homes.
There was one complaint but this one didn’t clean the corners well.
TrustedReviews.com
The guys from TrustedReviews really put this into action, testing it on all types of surfaces from laminate floors, hardwood, nylon rugs, and thicker rugs.
They report that this is performed on all of these surfaces except for thicker carpets because it lacks the suction power of an upright.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy this vacuum cleaner on Amazon for about $480 if you include shipping. The cheapest option is to get a Bissell version a few hundred dollars cheaper! It has a shorter runtime though at 30 minutes versus the Gtech’s 40 minutes.
One of the best deals I found was on Amazon because they offer free shipping.
Conclusion
It’s really a good product that works as advertised – as I’ve seen in many videos and read in testimonials it works great on both hard floor and carpet although it will struggle on thicker carpets. And because it rotates, you can access areas under your bed and table.
However, it does not come with any attachments that you will need another portable device for upholstery, windows, blinds, nooks, and other nooks.
The biggest concern for me is the battery and how long it will last because as per their warranty terms and conditions it is not covered as it is a consumable item but you can always call them at 01905345891 and check it out.
If it lasts for 5 years, this product will be worth the money.
If you are looking for a lightweight, cordless cleaner for carpet or bare floors and are willing to spend a few hundred dollars on it, this is a good addition to any home.
