Stairs and upholstery are among the most neglected areas that homeowners often fail to clean on a regular basis.
The reason is simple that many vacuums have limited tools to effectively clean these two areas.
You can choose the DC59 or the DC44 but while those two cost more than $300, there is one thing not many people are willing to spend.
The Portable Eureka EasyClean 71B is a great tool for stairs and upholstery due to its entryway design plus it has an effective brush brush for removing pet hair in these areas.
This only costs under $50 which is a big deal in my opinion.
It’s a corded vacuum cleaner, so you’ll have to find an outlet to plug it in but the benefits outweigh the negatives.
Good Housekeeping gives this a B- rating in their review and No. 2 in the Amazon Hand Vacuum Ratings.

What do you expect from the Eureka EasyClean 71B?
One of EasyClean’s strongest features is the suction. The testers at the Vacuum Wizard say it measured 70 on the water lift scale which is way too high.
Water lift gauge measures suction.
What makes this great for stairs and upholstery is the Riser Visor feature that makes this equally great for cleaning these areas both vertically and horizontally.
The cord is about 20 feet long but there is no cord wrap feature in the back of the vacuum cleaner, so there is no clutter in cord storage.
The small size allows this to be stored in a small space.
The review lamp does a good job of showing the EasyClean 71B features at a glance…
bare floor performance
Powerful suction plus motorized brushing makes this effective on bare floor surfaces. As I told you earlier, this is a 70 on a water lift gauge that measures suction power and that’s above average.
This one excels at cleaning small to medium debris and may struggle with large dirt pieces not due to a lack of suction.
You will struggle because the bristles may not fit between the bristles of the brush. A proper solution to this would be to use a hose and a crevice tool.
While you can clean floors with this, I do not suggest you use this as a floor cleaner because it is hand held and you will need to bend over to reach the floors.
It is best to use this as a stain cleaner.
This will also excel at cleaning carpeted stairs, an area where a lot of straight brooms and even cans struggle.
The Riser Visor feature allows this to clean not only horizontal but vertical areas as well.
It’s called the Riser Visor because you can flip the visor in both directions which allows you to clean stairs and risers as well – stair climbing is harder to clean.
The vacuum wizard shows how it’s done in their video here…
Now even with the 6″ cleaning path, I’m not sure you’d want to use this exclusively on floors where you’ll need to either bend or go down on all fours to do this. This will again work as a spot cleaner on low to medium pile carpets.
Pet hair removal
This vacuum literally inhales pet hair. Of the thousands of users who left a review on Amazon, many were owners of dogs and cats who shed so much pet hair that it’s hard to keep up.
Now if you own a heavy dog like an Akita or a Boston terrier.
Certainly the most difficult areas to clean are the sofa, stairs, and ledges.
The EasyClean 71B has great suction power and a motorized brush roll that allows it to pick up tons of pet hair with minimal effort.
Remember that the dust cup fills up very quickly and needs to be emptied often if you are cleaning a large area.
To show you how amazing they can affect pet hair, watch this video…
Attachments and accessories
This only comes with a crevice tool attachment, this combines with the 3ft flexible hose, you can use it to clean edges as well as corners and crevices.
This comes with 20 feet of cord and a cord winder for neat storage. It doesn’t have any rewinding feature so you will have to manually wind this coil and unwind it.
The filter on the 71B is washable and to remove it just press the release lever located here …
Lift the dust cup, remove the filter, and clean it under running water.
Now emptying the dust cup can be a bit messy especially with pet hair because pet hair tends to stick to the filter cloth so you will need to use your fingers to remove this debris.
The Decisive Vacuum Cleaner shows you how to remove the filter…
It only comes with a one year warranty but remember that this costs less than $40 and it’s pretty cheap to get a good quality vacuum cleaner.

The positive reviews have been overwhelming, with over 4,000 reviews and more.
Many of them were 5-star!
This resulted in Amazon being ranked second in the hand vacuum rankings based on sales and reviews.
Many consumers who left reviews were pet owners who were stunned by the results due to the powerful suction.
Not many expected this much power from a small void like this.
Remember that a motorized brush is powered by a separate motor from the suction motor, this means that the brush roll will spin at a high speed and will pick up a lot of pet hair but the extra pet hair will clump around the brush roll and need to be brushed regularly.
Another big praise that EasyClean has received is its ability to clean stairs, and not many handheld vacuums can easily do this.
This one does so with a simple but clever “Risor Visor” that basically acts like a visor that flips up and down depending on the area you want to clean.
The common complaints I see in all the reviews are two things – this can be a bit messy to clean/empty and has a small cup of dirt that fills up very quickly.
It only uses a cloth filter so don’t expect quality HEPA filtering type here, if you have any kind of allergy to dust wear a mask if you plan to buy this.
Where can I buy this?
The best price I found online was on Amazon and it costs under $50 and qualifies for free two-day shipping if you join Prime. Extended warranties are also available for up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.
This vacuum cleaner is great for people who are looking for a vacuum cleaner that is efficient at cleaning stairs and upholstery without making a hole in their pocket.
There may be more versatile, high-tech vacuums for this purpose like the DC44 or the DC59 but when you factor in the price, this is a no-brainer for budget-conscious homeowners looking for a tool for this.
Pet owners will also benefit from this vacuum cleaner because not only does it have strong suction, the motorized brush is driven by a separate motor which simply means it is powerful at picking up pet hair, especially on carpets and upholstery.
Although advertised as being great on car interiors, this will not work well on enclosed floors inside cars due to the vacuum inlet design which will not be effective on specific surfaces as well as being too large to fit into corners and crevices.
While it does have a flexible hose that may help, it’s too short in my opinion to reach in the tightest spaces inside the car.
