For vertical vacuums, you’ll need something with a power cord as long as possible.
This reduces the constant need to plug and unplug.
Also, you want something with wire rewinding. So you don’t spend time winding and untangling the wire.
Moreover, it should be lightweight and have high suction power.
This new listing from Eureka claims to have all these qualities at a fraction of the cost of a Dyson.
Is this really better than the Dyson DC41?
That’s what Eureka claims and we’ll find out how it works and what consumers think in this review.
Quick look at the features
- Capable of deep cleaning of carpets and bare floors with the on/off brush feature
- It has soft rubber wheels that reduce the chances of scratching hardwood or linoleum floors
- AirSpeed technology reduces power loss by directing suction from the engine to the floor nozzle in a straight line rather than through hoses.
- 27 feet retractable power cord
- 12 feet rubber hose
- Comes with Turbo Power brush, crevice and dusting tool as well as an extension wand
- Equipped with an allergen filter that prevents allergens from coming back out
- Bagless system eliminates the need for a bag
- 3 years warranty
- Powerful Suction – Unlike other supports where air passes through a maze of hoses, the Eureka is designed so that the suction generated by the motor goes directly to the nozzle thus providing better suction.
- Long 27ft power cord with wire twist capability means better reach minus time wasted manually winding and unwinding long wire.
- It comes with a 12ft long hose as well as a brush and turbo nozzle tools that let you clean upholstery, stairs, nooks and crannies.
- Light in portrait mode – only 15.5 lbs
- It uses two filters to better prevent dirt from coming out of the exhaust
- Very affordable at only $100
- Brush on/off feature improves performance on bare floors
- 13 inch wide cleaning path
- Huge – you need to free up some space to store this
- Turbo brush tool is not very effective for brushing on upholstery
- Consumers didn’t like that they had to adjust the height adjustment knob (for cleaning low, medium or high pile carpets)
- Does not rotate unlike DC41
- He will have a hard time going under the furniture because of its bulkiness
- No self-propelled feature that makes it difficult to move (according to some reviews)
What do you expect from Eureka AirSpeed?
The most impressive feature to me is AirSpeed technology which reduces power loss by directing suction directly to the nozzle without going through the length of the hose (which is why other struts have weaker suction).
To use the hose, you need to twist a handle to move the suction from the vacuum inlet to the hose.
Hose and extension wand add versatility
Speaking of the hose, it’s fairly long at 12 feet, add your extension stick about 15 to 16 feet at your disposal.
It allows you to clean stairs, upholstery, curtains and even ventilation holes in the ceiling.
Another great feature is the retractable power cord. Even with this feature, the Eureka was able to keep the weight at only about 15 pounds. The wire is a decent length of 27 feet!
This is also suitable indoors with hardwoods as it comes with a brush on/off feature so it doesn’t scratch.
Attachments and accessories
Comes with 4-stick extension, prong, dusting and turbo nozzle tool.
There are two filters here, an allergy filter that prevents allergens from coming back and a washable foam filter.
Both are washable and you will have to change them twice a year to maintain performance.
It’s right below the dirt can and is easy to remove.
The main foam filter is located on top of the dirt container and is easy to reach when emptying the container.
Make sure to air dry them before putting them back in.
Eureka backs this up with a generous 3-year warranty.
Watch it in action
Emily Knight of familylifeinlv.com tests this out on rugs, tiles and upholstery, let’s see how it goes…
Note that this is a different variable.
The model shown in the video does not come with the retractable cord but has the same motor.
I just wanted to show you how to clean different surfaces well just to give you an idea of how they perform.
bare floor performance
This works well on a bare floor because it gives you the option to turn off the motorized brush. It is a twofold benefit.
First, this prevents scratches when tough nylon brushes come into contact with the surface, and second, it works great on large bits of debris like mashed cookies or cereal – as you’ll see later in the video.
The suction is strong enough to clean this surface without the need for a motorized brush.
The motorized brush in addition to the powerful suction force allows the carpet to be cleaned in depth but may not be cleaned as deeply as in thick, velvety carpets.
It also has a knob located on the base that lets you switch from the bare, thin floor all the way to thicker carpeting. Make sure it is set to the correct setting before you turn it on.
Depending on the type of dirt, you can clean the upholstery using a turbo nozzle or brush tool.
For things like pet hair or embedded dirt, a turbo nozzle will work just fine, and for larger pieces like cherio crumbs, use the dusting brush tool.
Pet hair removal
This vacuum cleaner is capable of handling pet hair on bare floors, carpets or upholstery.
On carpet just turn on the motorized brush and then let it do the work for you but on bare floors turn off the brush.
If you are cleaning fabric upholstery, you can use a small turbo brush and a hose. However, I wouldn’t rely on this for upholstery cleaning because it’s too big and bulky for the task. What do consumers say?
Since this is relatively new to the market, it still has quite a few reviews, and consumers, in general, were pleased with the power of the A3030A AirSpeed suction.
It was able to pick up dirt, debris, rabbit dust, and pet hair on a variety of surfaces such as hardwood, linoleum and tile.
Although it has strong suction power, it still does not match the more powerful rolls as noted by some consumers.
Someone said it’s not strong enough to deep clean thick carpets.
The retractable cord feature is a nice addition as it saves time but some have complained that it didn’t fully pull the cord and would leave the last few feet hanging.
This may be a quality control issue.
The power cord isn’t terribly short at 27 feet but there have been reviews that didn’t like it. If you compare it to the Dyson DC65 which has a 35-foot cord, it’s short.
Like most cleaners in this price range, there will be problems with fit and finish because some didn’t like how the attachments stuck together or how low-quality the plastic used was.
And as usual, there are complaints about defective units which are by the way normal as only a small percentage of the products that come out of their factories in China will have defects.
Remember, this has a 3-year warranty, so take advantage of it.
Overall, consumers have been very pleased with the performance that comes at a fraction of the cost of the Dyson but for the price you pay and the features you’ll get, it’s very good value for money.
Where can I buy this?
Unfortunately, you will not be able to purchase this particular brand new one on Amazon. Only used units are available.
Amazon also sells extended warranties of up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.
This would be a great budget option for people who can’t afford a Dyson or Shark Lift-Away.
It may not contain the features found in these two. But in terms of cleaning performance, it is not very far.
The first bonus will be the 3-year warranty which gives you some peace of mind.
Also, it’s versatile enough that you can use it on upholstery and stairs, and it has enough to clean dust and cobwebs from the ceiling.
It even has a turbo brush tool that allows you to brush pet hair from upholstery and stairs, although you may struggle with this if you have long stairs, all straight brooms will struggle here.
For the price, this standing vacuum is a bargain. But remember that there will be quality control issues and it won’t clean quite as well as high-end brands like Dyson.
