Smart robot vacuums have improved greatly over the past few years. Brands are pushing the boundaries of technology by adding more features.

One manufacturer that is pushing the envelope is Ecovacs with the DEEBOT products I will be comparing in this article.

I will be comparing two specific models: OZMO T8 AIVI and N8 Pro Plus. These two variants offer some of the latest technologies that Ecovacs has to offer with obstacle avoidance and navigation.

Ecovacs will also release the T9 soon, but this is a separate review.

As a bonus, I’ll answer some common questions I see online in forums at the end of the article.

Introduction to Ecovacs DEEBOT OZMO T8 AIVI and N8 Pro

Apart from Roborock, Ecovacs has been active in developing its products, releasing several new products this year.

We will be looking at two of their latest offerings – T8 AIVI and N8 Pro.

I’ll also point you to the displays of subvariables with each form to help clear up and understand terminology confusion.

These two robots share many components and are essentially identical products, with a few exceptions.

Avoiding AI Obstacles: Ecovacs T8 AIVI

T8 AIVI is the flagship of Ecovac (may change with the release of the T9) with artificial intelligence technology for obstacle avoidance.

This model is the first I’ve seen with a stretch Active obstacle avoidance system: single lens camera.

The front camera aims to detect and avoid obstacles like the human eye does with artificial intelligence.

While the ideal is fine, actual global tests reveal that it has some work to do. I’ve tested it extensively and found that it has blind spots.

You cannot fully rely on them to avoid obstacles. It does to a point, but leaving things like wires scattered wouldn’t be a good idea because the side brush will get tangled up with it.

Another feature that makes the T8 an outstanding choice is a large capacity battery of 5200mAh, which allows it to 180 minute run (at the lowest location).

You can buy T8 AIVI with or without automatic discharge station, but the latter entails spending more than Roomba I3 and I6And Dreame Z10 ProAnd Yadi Fak StationAnd Shark intelligence.

All of these brands are DEEBOT’s direct competition.

Cheaper alternative with 3D laser obstacle avoidance: Ecovacs N8 Pro

Ecovacs recently released a new product: the N8 Pro series – a budget alternative to the more expensive T8 range.

One significant reduction is battery capacity; From the T8’s 5200 mAh, the N8 Pro . uses Smaller 3200 mAh battery.

I took a picture of their batteries, and you can see the size difference.

This reduction reduces uptime From 180 minutes to 110 minutes.

However, it’s not a huge concern for owners of small homes (2,000 square feet or less), as 110 minutes is more than enough with Smart Mobility.

Recharging and Resuming also mitigates a shorter runtime, as it resumes cleaning if it has not finished before the cleaning cycle.

The good news is that 110 minutes is still longer than Roomba S9and I6 and I3 The runtime is 75 minutes, so it’s not the shortest robot vacuum in action.

There are two options for the N8 Pro: the Android N8 Pro only and a variant with the dock that empties automatically.

Similarities Between Ecovacs T8 AIVI and N8 Pro

Don’t let the technical jumbo mumbo fool you into thinking these are two different robots.

While there may be differences between the obstacle avoidance system and the battery, everything else is the same, and we’ll take a look at them below.

1. Shape and interface

Put these bots side by side without showing the introduction, and you will think they are the same bots.

Both options have the same color scheme, one-button design and the top door reveals the trash and cleaning brush.

Dimensions are exactly the same as Ecovacs use the same base frame for both products.

2. Recycle bin design and capacity

Of course, the use of the same frameworks flows to other components one of which is trash.

The T8 AIVI and N8 Pro use the same litter box with one slight difference depending on the preferred sub-model.

But the basic shape and size are identical – even 420ml of dry dirt.

This difference is the two outlet ports where debris flows from the trash can into the automatic emptying bag.

All variants with a self-discharging dock will have these ports and these have slots.

Docking models that are not automatically emptied will have a standard flat bottom litter box.

If you only purchase the robot variant and then decide to purchase the automatic emptying station, you will have to remove the two port covers to make room for the new litter box.

3. The composition and design of the brush

Below, you will see another similarity – the brush layout and the identical brushes used.

They both have the same side brush and combo brush without any obvious differences.

There is no difference between T8 and N8 Pro, these parts are interchangeable.

4. Two-in-one function

These robots can mop floors in addition to the functions of a vacuum cleaner.

There is a rear-mounted water tank on the back of these robots that doubles as a mop bracket holder.

Each water tank can Holds similar volumes, at 230ml. Ecovacs uses an electronic water tank for the T8 and N8 Pro series, so water use is efficient.

5. LIDAR and LIVE MAP

Despite the additional vertical space due to the LIDAR cover, laser robots are, in my opinion, the most efficient robots.

The Ecovacs T8 AIVI and N8 Pro are no exceptions because they both use a LIDAR or laser distance sensor.

Since they both use like this, they both have live maps, where you will see the real-time status of the bot cleaning.

Thanks to LIDAR, you will see these grid lines, which symbolize the areas that the robot has cleaned or wiped.

It is an important advantage that LIDAR robots have over their camera-based counterparts such as Rumba Weddy.

6. Navigational route

The T8 and N8 Pro use the same navigational path.

These robots move in exactly the same path – they start running by cleaning the edges and then move towards the middle, taking the shortest path from end to end.

I initially thought this path was ineffective, but it was actually more efficient From Roborock S7 And I finished three minutes faster, at least in my home office.

Both were adept at getting around, even in tight areas, and didn’t bend over the legs of an office chair—a problem with robots running randomly.

9. Application Features

Both variants have identical app features, from power setting options to the number of maps it can save.

There will be differences between the auto-discharge and non-auto-discharge options, such as the empty dust icon on the N8 Pro app running a self-discharge cycle.

Scan results, not surprisingly, are identical because both robots need twice as much to remove red wine stains.

But the good news is that there wasn’t much, if any, leftover leftovers after the race.

Differences between Ecovacs DEEBOT T8 AIV and N8 Pro

Let’s find out the differences between these robots.

1. Battery

The most important difference between the T8 and N8 Pro series is the battery.

You can see the size difference in this shot.

The T8 uses a larger 5200mAh Li-ion battery, while the N8 Pro uses a smaller 3200mAh battery.

Due to the difference in capacity, the T8 runs longer, up to 180 minutes, and the N8 Pro runs for 110 minutes.

But with recharging and resuming, uptime shouldn’t be a sticking point unless you live in a large 10,000-square-foot mansion.

2. Obstacle avoidance sensors

The T8 model I own is AIVI, so it has a front camera, a single lens, and artificial intelligence.

In comparison, the N8 Pro uses front-facing 3D laser sensors, which I prefer because it has better accuracy.

There are T8 models with 3D sensors – look for non-AIVI versions on shopping sites with TrueDetect 3D written on it.

Please note that T8 models with 3D sensors are cheaper than AIVI but still use the same 5200mAh battery.

3. CCTV functions

AIVI camera models feature Close Circuit Television where you can check what’s going on at home, even remotely.

Ecovacs says the captured images are encrypted and not stored in the cloud.

Also, the camera function is password protected, so it’s a security layer that protects it.

Application Features of Ecovacs T8 AIVI and N8 Pro

T8 AIVI and N8 Pro share many of the same app features.

There will be differences based on the variant you choose, especially if you choose the sub-variable with an empty dock automatically. But the basic features will be identical.

1. Live Map

My favorite feature of any smart vacuum cleaner I’ve reviewed is the live map.

It is a visual representation of your house layout on the app.

It displays not only the layout, but also the location of the robot during the cleaning cycle in real time.

Using LIDAR is more useful as you can see grid lines that represent areas that have been cleaned up and what’s left.

Users will also see other information such as the cleaned area and the elapsed time.

These robots are actually a good way to measure the exact size of your home floor.

2. Savings Map

When the app is installed, users will be required to run a cleaning cycle to create a map.

There will be no access to other features until this initial rollout.

Make sure all doors are open and any obstructions are removed for best results.

Once the map is created, consumers can save and use a custom name for quick identification.

The application can save up to two levels of the map, and within each map it is possible to set sections and add containment to prevent the bot from entering restricted areas.

3. Map detection

Another noteworthy feature is the rare map discovery feature which I don’t see in other brands.

When the robot comes out of the dock, it does an initial check, hence the slight delay before edge cleaning starts.

LIDAR scans to determine the shape of the ocean, then loads the correct map.

This feature is useful because there is no need to load the map manually.

With the Ecovacs app, there is a need because users cannot manually select the map.

4. Containment

Ecovacs offers three different containment systems – Invisible Wall, No-Zones, and No-Nos-Zones.

It is a wall or virtual barrier that prevents the robot from going over it.

The most important benefit of an invisible wall is that users can draw diagonal lines, which adds a lot of flexibility to the areas they can block.

These are square or rectangular areas that are considered off-limits. The robot will not venture into these four corners areas.

They are very useful in blocking areas, let’s say, the pet area where the dog or cat is feeding or sleeping or the children’s play area

It’s a similar feature to restricted area – square or rectangular restricted areas, but it’s meant to prevent the robot from wiping the carpet.

However, this feature is redundant because the T8 and N8 Pro have carpet sensors that prevent the robot from going over carpets or rugs with the wiping pad attached.

5. Edit the map

Users can also make adjustments to the map – merge, split, name rooms, and add containment.

I already discussed containment in the previous section, so we’ll focus on other aspects here.

The merge function will simply merge the selected sections into one larger area.

LIDAR is quite accurate in identifying partitions, especially in areas with entrances. So I don’t think you’ll use the merge function to the same extent.

But it’s always a good idea to have this option in case the divisions aren’t accurate.

This brings me to the next feature, which is split. People can create the class manually and name these areas to quickly select them.

Unfortunately, the custom label is not available, so you are limited to a list.

6. Selective room cleaning and area cleaning

Another benefit of Ecovac’s map saving feature is the ability to clean specific areas.

There are two options – selective cleaning of the room and cleaning of areas

Compatibility with the scheduling feature enhances its usefulness to consumers.

Users can schedule specific time frames to clean areas at the best times they see fit.

Cleaning by area is similar to selective room cleaning, but it focuses on a specific rectangular or square area that you draw on the map.

Unfortunately, consumers cannot memorize these areas, so they must draw them frequently on the map to use them.

So far, the iRobot app only has custom memorable cleaning areas.

7. Scheduling

Finally, consumers can define cleaning schedules to automate sweeping cycles.

One aspect I love about the Ecovacs app’s scheduling feature is that it can schedule an unlimited number of cycles.

In addition, there is no minimum gap between runs, so you can schedule as many runs as needed, optimizing The benefit of self-discharge.

Navigation comparison

There is not much difference here because they both use the same navigational sensors and algorithms – LIDAR and SLAM.

Obstacle avoidance may vary, depending on the submodel.

I’ve said this earlier, but I’ll repeat it here – TrueDetect 3D is better than AIVI because laser sensors have better accuracy.

These robots will start cleaning the edges first before moving towards the middle areas in straight lines.

The Ecovacs algorithm will choose the shortest possible path from end to end.

So in the screenshot, you will see that he chose the path from east to west.

Coverage comparison

Again, there isn’t much difference because both variants use the same motor and brush layout.

The dual side brush tends to scatter debris, and you need a two-pass cycle to pick up the trash.

However, it did leave traces of dirt after the cleaning cycle. It’s a notch below the Roborock S7 and Roomba S9 in this category.

Efficiency comparison

The similarity between these robots will pass to their efficiency.

Since the T8 and N8 Pro have moved Basically the same styleBoth will finish the race in a similar time frame.

I did an efficiency test with the N8 Pro, which is Complete the race in 17 minutes – 3 minutes faster than the Roborock S7 which uses Dynamic Cycle.

T8 Finish the race faster (13 minutes 46 seconds), but this is due to some differences in the test area.

My point is that these bots are efficient and make the most of their uptime.

Air Flow Comparison

Ecovacs says these robots have 2,500 Pa of suction but based on my independent testing, Pascal is not an accurate measure of force.

One of the tools I use to measure strength is the anemometer, which measures air turbulence. Using a robotic vacuum, stick it directly onto the cleaning nozzle (or brush roll area).

There is not much difference between these two models. I would say the differences can be a margin for error, but regardless, it’s a little too small to declare a perfect winner.

I tested a robotic vacuum cleaner with a higher Pa shape but ended up with lower airflow results.

Higher Pascal numbers do not translate into better cleaning performance. Other factors include brush roller design and navigation algorithm.

The cleaning results further confirm the results of the airflow test as there is not much difference with picking up of debris.

Based on these results, the Ecovacs N8 Pro performed better, but I can’t declare it a clear winner because the difference is less than a percentage.

It is too little to be considered the best cleaning robot.

Eye tests also show many quirks, including the side brush scattering debris, a common subject for dual side brush robots.

Which is better for hardwood floors?

My go-to test to determine which robot is better on hard floors is how much sand it picks up.

Here are the results of the Ecovacs T8 AIVI.

The N8 Pro picked up more sand (99.5% vs. 99%), and eye tests showed it picked up a good chunk on the initial pass.

It is a result with other experiments, the difference is too small to declare a clear winner.

The T8 AIVI and N8 Pro performed well in edge-cleaning tests, capturing the majority of debris scattered in this test area.

This is the trade-off you’ll need to consider with double-sided brush robots. These products are great for cleaning edges but tend to scatter large piles of debris.

But for everyday cleaning tasks, the latter shouldn’t be a problem as it mostly deals with dust or hair.

Surprisingly, the Ecovacs N8 Pro is the best hair-cleaning option, getting a higher percentage in both the five and seven inch tests.

I’m not sure why choose the N8 Pro more because they both use the same brush, but these are the results of the trials.

Which is better on carpet?

Once again, the results on the carpet close together on surface debris and sand embedded for deep cleaning.

In fact, the T8 AIVI did slightly better with a deep clean, but only less than half a percent (66.65% vs. 66.16%).

It is safe to say that these robots will give similar results on carpet.

Looking at the scanning unit on the N8 Pro, there is no upgrade by Ecovacs.

Both use the same 230ml water tank that does not contain any filtration element, but only the T8 is compatible with the OZMO Pro wiping system.

The scan results are identical in the sense that it left a residue after the first two-pass cycle.

These bots needed a second run to clean stains completely — a notch lower than the S5 Max because it has a two-pass cycle versus the last with a maximum of three passes.

Runtime comparison

T8 AIVI has an advantage in this category thanks to Li-ion battery 5200 mAh which can nominate for up to 180 minutes.

In comparison, only the N8 Pro Works for 110 minutes (lowest setting) because it uses a smaller 3200mAh Li-ion battery.

One of the positive aspects of these bots is both Usable strength even in standard settingso the uptime numbers are realistic.

Another anomalous result of these robots is the noise test.

Although both variants use the same engine, the T8 AIVI is noisier, Maximum at 67.1 dB.

The N8 Pro is quieter, across the board with a Max 64.4 dB.

Next, we’ll look at what’s needed for Maintenance of these robots.

Maintenance is an important aspect of robot vacuum ownership and can be the difference between a robot that lasts a year or many years.

I will show you which components need to be cleaned or replaced as well as the suggested time frame.

  1. Combo brush: The most infamous component of the robot is the primary brush. Clean it once a week to remove any hair wrap that has accumulated on the bristles and hubs to prevent unnecessary friction.
  2. Side brush: Next to the brush combo, this is the next misused part. The hair will wrap around the arms and base, so pull it out to clean at least once a week.
  3. Dustbin and filter: Even if you get the replacement with a self-empty dock, it is essential to check and clean the trash and filter. The recommended interval is once a week to clean it well. Tap the filter against a hard object (for example, a trash can) to dislodge any dirt trapped within the folds. Replace it every two or three months to ensure the robot will operate at its peak.
  4. fall sensors: Use a clean rag to wipe these sensors under the robot once or twice a month to prevent an error code from triggering and disabling the robot.
  5. Wheels: Wipe the wheels (side and wheels) to remove any accumulated dirt twice a month.
  6. the body: Dust will stick to the body over time, so use a clean, dry microfiber towel to clean and remove any fingerprints.
  7. Automatic unloading station: There isn’t much here but a guarantee to replace the bags if they reach their full capacity and to keep the two ports clear of any debris, which could clog them.

Parts Availability

Ecovacs is one of the most famous brands outside iRobotprompting more third-party manufacturers to sell components such as filters, side brushes, and combo brushes.

Parts like the battery are also available on sites like Amazon and eBay. But more obscure and hard-to-find things like a side brush motor or a side wheel assembly can be more difficult.

This is what sets iRobot apart from other brands – the absolute availability of parts.
