What do you expect from the Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic SD40100?
This vacuum cleaner is a great option for bare floors.
If you look under the floor tool, it doesn’t have any motorized brush. Even though it has rug, it won’t do well outside of the thinnest pile rug out there.
While it has wire wrap, the wire is on the short side at only 16 feet. So you will have to plug and unplug this a lot.
A cool feature though is the foot control that allows you to turn this device on and off using your foot. There is also a rope pull feature that makes tidying easier.
Attachments and accessories
Comes with 2 tools – crevice/dusting brush and upholstery tool. It also has a telescopic stick that spans 7.5 feet.
This allows you to clean more areas above the ground, and combine that with a 5-foot hose, so you have more than 12 feet of reach.
The power cord is approximately 16 feet long plus it comes with a cord wrap.
The HEPA filter can be washed and should be replaced every 6 months or so.

Comes with only one year warranty.
bare floor performance
This brushless vacuum cleaner will work best on floors such as hardwood or tile. Consumers confirm this in the reviews.
It doesn’t have any motorized brush included, so you don’t have to worry about scratching any expensive hardwood floors.
It is equipped with a telescopic wand so cleaning stairs is not a problem.
The lack of a motorized brush severely limits Featherlite’s performance on carpets. You can still use it on carpets to clean surface dirt but don’t expect it to clean dirt on medium to plush carpets.
It does have a brush when you hit a lever on the floor tool, but this only pushes the brush down, but that won’t be as effective for deep cleaning the built-in dirt.
It is able to clean different types of upholstery with a set of tools. The upholstery tool works great primarily on fabric upholstery. For other types like leather, the crevice/dusting tool will do a great job.
Pet hair removal
You can use this to clean pet hair from upholstery and any hard surface because the suction will be strong enough to do this but on carpet it will struggle because it lacks the beater bar which is an essential tool for picking up pet hair on any carpet surface.

What do consumers say
This product has received over 500 reviews on Amazon alone with hundreds more on other online stores such as Walmart.
Consumers who gave it a high rating loved how lightweight and generally maneuverable it was due to the caster wheel under the case.
The cleaning performance was great according to them on bare floor surfaces and area rugs, but on rugs it would struggle because it doesn’t have a brush.
Note that a lot of negative reviews say that this will not clean carpets very well because it lacks a motorized brush.
The lack of a whisk applicator limits its effectiveness on carpets. But she has a solid brush for excitement.
It might work well on surface dirt but that’s just about it, the same brush also makes it harder to press into the carpet.
For homes with carpets, the best alternative is the Panasonic Mc-CG917 Optiflow. It is more expensive but will clean the carpet better.
The telescopic stick is a great feature because it extends all the way to 7.5 feet allowing even people around 5’11 inches to use it without bending over.
Since this is a budget vacuum, there will be some fitting and fitting issues with the plastic and floor tool. There are complaints about the plastic clips breaking after a few months of use, so this should be taken into account.
You will have to consider the pros and cons of buying this compared to a more expensive brand.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy this versatile vacuum cleaner on Amazon for less than $70 and you’ll be eligible for free two-day shipping if you join Prime. They also sell extended warranties of up to 3 years just in case you want that extra peace of mind.
Small to medium homes with lots of exposed floors and carpets will benefit the most from this product as it does not have a brush.
Although there is a setting for the carpet, it will not do well other than carpet with a finer pile and will not be able to deeply clean the surfaces of the carpet.
The lack of a motorized brush has a benefit – it won’t scratch your expensive hard floors.
It also comes with a telescopic wand that extends up to 7.5 feet allowing you to clean hard-to-clean areas right up to the ceiling.
It has wire to rewind but the power cord is a bit short at only 16 feet so you’ll need to plug and unplug it frequently.
That’s why I only recommend this for small and medium sized homes, and then it will be a nuisance due to the lack of cord length.
The case has spinner wheels with improved maneuverability but the floor tool itself does not spin so minus the points here.
This vacuum cleaner will work best in homes with bare surfaces. It’s light and maneuverable – great for cleaning high traffic areas, tight spaces, air vents and upholstery. The adjustable wand makes the stair cleaner effective.
But don’t expect too much in terms of quality because this broom is cheap. The plastic used is substandard and may crack over time.
