A couple of years ago, I talked about the GTech Multi Handheld vacuum cleaner that has innovative features not even found on Dyson. It was a decent product but the problem was availability and cost.
If you were to do a search on Amazon, you wouldn’t find this portable device.
So Bissell took the lead and filled the void by launching the 1985 lightweight portable device that looks just like the GTech.
Not only does it look like a GTech but it’s even cheaper. It will cost under $140 on Amazon while the GTech Multi will cost around £149.99.
We will consider the features of this lightweight portable device. And see if it’s a viable option just in case you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to Dyson or Shark.
At first glance, this broom looks like a simple hand tool but it offers more functionality than you think.
It comes with a variety of accessories such as the long extension wand, crevice tool, detachable hose, and motorized mini brush. So this is a great option for cleaning stairs and upholstery.
Quick look at the features

- Khartoum looks flimsy
What to expect from the 1985 Bissell Lightweight Cordless?
Like I said in the introduction, this mobile looks exactly like the GTech Multi.
In fact, it is a blatant Gtech theft by Bissell. But I don’t read any copyright disputes, it should be legal theft.
This machine is a versatile machine thanks to the interchangeable tools.
Table of Contents
Built-in flexible hose
Like the Black & Decker Platinum BDH2000FL, the Bissell 1985 also has a built-in hose that allows you to clean narrow crevices around the sofa cushions. You can also use this inside your car.
One of my concerns about this tool is the quality of the plastic used and how it will hold up in the long run. So you have to be careful not to push it too hard.
Li-ion battery 22 volts
This device is powered by a 22V Li-ion battery that lasts for about 15 minutes.
When compared to the Dyson V8 or the Shark IONFlex, this number is a bit low. Even the Dibea C17 was able to squeeze for 40 minutes from its Li-Ion battery.
But since you’ll be using this mostly for spot cleans – this shouldn’t be a problem.
The tools you will get
Despite the concerns about the quality, you get a lot for the $$ with your purchase.
It has many tools at your fingertips that can clean different areas inside the house.
- Automatic brush roll
- built-in hose
- extension stick
- brush tool
- slit tool
These tools are great for cleaning both indoors and in your car. You will literally clean every part of your home except for the floor cleaning. If you are looking for a combo tool, you can combine it with Bissell AirRam.
Combine the price of these two machines and you’ll still be cheaper than the Dyson V8 Absolute.
Ease of emptying the container
Unloading the container is easy due to the wide opening, and the container itself is detachable. This makes it less messy and much easier to clean.
I must warn you that the dirt container is small (only about 0.4 liters) so expect to empty it often.
Extension hose and wand
This feature is what makes this popular. By default, you will only see the brush tool. But when you pull it out, it reveals a flexible hose that makes it even more versatile.
Imagine all the places this tool allows you to clean not only inside your house but inside your car as well.
However, the hose is not that long so it may be a problem in some areas.
Automatic brush roll
Another useful tool is the motorized brush roll. If you have pets, this can be useful for cleaning fabric sofas or carpeted stairs due to its efficiency.
But you will need to arrange the hair that goes around the brush. The closest thing I’ve seen to a maintenance-free tool is the Black & Decker BDH2000FL.
Another maintenance-free tool is the Dyson tangle-free but pricey tool.
cleaning performance
Consumers say that this vacuum cleaner has amazing suction power and captures everything in sight.
Since this is a handheld device, you cannot use it to clean floors on a large scale even with a turbo brush.
This product is useful for cleaning all types of upholstery from leather to fabric. Attach an extension wand and you can clean blinds and cobwebs from low ceilings.
Pull the hose and you’ll have a tool that works like a can on a much smaller scale.

What do consumers say?
If there’s one thing that’s consistent about what consumers are saying, it’s that this broom has a great deal of suction. It is able to pick up all kinds of dirt from pet hair, litter and all kinds of bad things.
The interchangeable kit is what makes this product so versatile and capable of cleaning every part of your home. Attach the extension stick and you can clean the base plates.
Uptime is another strong point. Some reviews state that it lasts up to 25 minutes after a 5 hour charge.
That’s 10 minutes more than what is written in the product description.
If anything close to 25 minutes it’s impressive.
One concern would be the quality of the plastic. I read a comment that says the locking mechanism that holds the hose wears out very quickly if you’re not careful.
Another issue is the lack of storage for many of the tools that come with this. You have to either buy a separate bag for it or store it inside the box.
But overall sentiment was positive thanks to the combination of versatility power and
Where can I buy this?
The best place to buy this would be on Amazon as it is cheaper than buying direct from Bissell.
Another reason to buy there would be the extended warranty offered.
to finish
This lightweight and versatile portable device is another great alternative to a Dyson cordless if you’re not willing to spend a few hundred dollars on it. Similar to the Dyson, it has interchangeable tools and a flexible hose that allows it to clean nooks and crannies.
The only thing she can’t do is clean large floor spaces because she lacks a dedicated floor tool. But for other areas of your home, you’ll be hard-pressed to find something that combines strength and versatility.
Quality may be a concern, but you can purchase the Extended Warranty for your peace of mind.

summary
People looking for a portable, lightweight and versatile device that can clean upholstery and stairs should take a look at the Bissell 1985 Cordless. This portable device is light and compact with an ergonomic handle that is easy to move around. It has good power to clean small dirt, but some concerns include its short runtime, small capacity box, and poor quality rubber used in the hose. For a portable device without wires, it’s about the same price as the Dyson V7 Trigger, so it’s hard to recommend.
