Pets can be a stress reliever because they offer you unconditional love, but as with any pet owner, they will know that owning a pet requires a lot of care. Not just by feeding them, taking care of them, and taking care of them.
It also includes brushing a lot of pet hair.
Owning a pet is like having another baby.
To clean pet hair, you will need the right tools for the job.
A few months ago, I wrote about the first generation of Bissell’s cordless pet hair eraser and this is the second generation with some improvements that we hope will keep consumers coming back for more.
While the old version lacked attachments, the newer Pet Hair Eraser 1782 has a better kit that includes a motorized brush tool, a crevice tool and an upholstery tool, and most of the time it’s dedicated to one thing – cleaning pet hair.
And from the feedback I’ve read from consumers – this product looks promising.
Quick look at the features
- It has a new and improved motorized brush brush (not air-driven but has a motor)
- Tools are attached more securely
- Dual filtration keeps main filters clean for longer
- Weighs only 3.75 pounds
- 4 volt nickel-cadmium battery
- Comes with 2 other tools – a crevice tool and an upholstery tool
- 1 year warranty
Positives
- Lightweight
- cheap (under $50)
- A better tool kit than your old cordless pet hair eraser
- The robotic tool has its own motor to improve the excitement
- Great for homes with pets
Negatives
- Still uses Ni-Cad batteries that are prone to power fade
- short warranty
- small dirt container

What do you expect from the new Bissell Pet Hair Eraser?
The first thing you’ll notice apart from the bright new green is the length of this product. When compared to the old version it is a little longer. This means the dirt box is a little larger but don’t expect it to hold a lot of dirt.
New automatic brush roll
Bissell has improved the accessories, and it all starts with the motorized brush roller with its own motor.
Other brands boast that their products have this feature. But in fact, it is not just air that rotates the brush. This makes stirring weaker and won’t clean as well.
The new 1782 brush roller has its own motor, and that means better cleaning and freshening of your upholstery and beds. There are two popular areas dogs love to hang out in, and if the Dyson V6 mattress is out of your price range, this is a good, cheap option.
Still using Ni-Cad battery
Unfortunately, if you’re expecting a new lithium-ion battery, you’ll be disappointed as this still uses a Nickel Cadmium battery. While the volume has increased from 12 volts to 14.4, it will still have the same problem that plagues voids still using this technology – power fading and weight gain.
Double layer filtration system
The older version had a single-stage filtration system that gets dirty quickly because nothing protects the fabric filter from dirt.
When you look at the filtration system this new version uses, it has a fine mesh filter that prevents all dirt, grime, pet hair and dust from clogging the paper element filter.
This extra layer of protection isn’t as high tech as the Dyson cyclones but does work fairly well but you have to remember we’re talking about a vacuum cleaner under $50 here, so don’t expect any high tech features.
Attachments and accessories
You will get three main tools…
This includes the crevice tool, motorized brush tool, and upholstery tool.
Shipping time
Bissell doesn’t specify how long a recharge will take but for an initial charge and make sure to plug it in at least 5 hours to get the most out of your Ni-Cad battery.
Filter cleaning
Both filters are washable – external and internal filters.
Here’s how to access both…
To give you a better idea of how to clean the filter, please watch this video…
the show length
Bissell did not specify how long this full charge would take, but I suspect that with the larger battery it would be around 5 to 15 minutes but due to the NiCad battery, expect some level of power fade.
Guarantee
The new cordless pet hair eraser comes with a one year warranty only.
Watch it in action
Demo from Bissell on the various features of this product.
bare floor performance
Keep in mind that this product is strictly a spot cleaning tool, so you won’t be able to clean a large flat area because it doesn’t have an extension or hard floor tool that will allow you to do this.
Remember that this product has a limited runtime, so use it only as a spot cleaner for a quick clean.
carpet performance
Again, this is a great spot cleaning tool for cleaning small spaces.
Although this brush is motorized, I’m afraid that a deep cleaning of thick or medium pile carpets won’t suffice, but you can use this to clean carpeted stairs – at least removing surface debris, keeping stairs clean and preventing dirt from accumulating.
Pet hair removal
I love the new tools that come with this product. The main brush roller locks securely in place with a single click and the brush roller has its own motor that maximizes agitation
More irritation means more hair picking up either on the mattress or upholstery.
It comes with an additional upholstery tool that you can use on flat surfaces. This can be very useful inside cleaning the carpets or chairs of your car.
But don’t expect to clean a truckload of pet hair because it lacks suction.

Customer Reviews
This affordable cordless has over 800 comments!
Apparently many of them are pet owners who have been looking for something cordless to keep sofas, beds, and other furnishings free of pet hair.
Not as much suction as the wired version
It had a decent section but compared to the wired version, it doesn’t come close and is something you’d expect from a cheap radio.
But consumers still love it despite the lack of suction due to the convenience especially in cleaning small dirt like pet litter.
The lack of suction also affects how this embeded pet hair is cleaned on different types of fabric upholstery.
Go with a rope if you have pets
It will be difficult to brush a lot of pet hair. If you have a lot of pets, use the wired version. This will only work if you have one or two pets.
Some consumers have mentioned that this appears to use some kind of cyclonic filtration because dirt doesn’t stay stuck in the filters but I haven’t read any info on this so take it with caution.
But adding a primary mesh filter makes this easier to clean and extends the life of the secondary filter.
Another potential issue is power fade which is common with tools that use a Ni-Cad battery.
Short time with the brush
Run time will range from 5 to 15 minutes. If you use a motorized brush, this number will fall on the lower end of the spectrum.
If you mainly use motorized brushing, expect the runtime to be close to the 5 minute figure.
This product is light in weight, cheap and has good potency and arousal. If you don’t want the hassles of wire, have a look at this product.
Budget shoppers will love this with the improvements it brings to the table.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy this from Amazon for less than $50. This will be eligible for free 2-day shipping if you join Prime. If a year’s warranty isn’t enough, Amazon offers extended warranties of up to 3 years for extra peace of mind.
Buying this directly from Bissell would be more expensive.
to finish
The new Bissell Cordless Pet Hair Eraser is a great budget option for pet owners who are looking for a no-nonsense tool that will help them clean pet hair from their furnishings and beds. Two of the places cats or dogs love to hang out.
It has better vibration thanks to the motorized brush tool, so this would be great for stairs or fabric upholstery.
Another improvement over the old pet hair eraser is the attachments themselves – the motorized brush tool snaps into place so you don’t have to worry about it falling out or cracking the plastic.
It also has a custom upholstery tool for your upholstery at home or in your car, so it’s a very versatile machine.
If you can’t afford a Dyson V6 or V7 Trigger mattress, take a look at them. It won’t offer the same high-tech tools that Dyson would, but it does the job and the reviews prove it.

summary
If you are looking for a cheap cordless portable device that can clean pet hair, this second generation Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is a good choice. It has a more efficient robotic tool for picking up hair on upholstery and stairs. However, some will wrap around the brush, so you will have to clean it regularly. Other issues include short runtime, small dust cup, and power fading from the Ni-Cad battery. People who don’t want to shell out cash for V7 Trigger can opt for this handheld device.
