Posted on May 15, 2022 by admin

Did you know that carpet is the biggest filter in your home?

A clean rug translates to a comfortable, clean, and misty place you can cuddle with.

A dirty carpet could mean bad health effects for your family.

I say this to amplify the importance of keeping your carpets clean.

Carpets are one of the most difficult things to clean inside your home.

It’s something you can’t put off because it can leave you with a messy and expensive repair task.

The good news is that you can easily maintain your carpet with a good vacuum cleaner.

This is what I focus on today. Not only will I advise you what to buy, but I will also give you tips on how to choose one.

Our pick: Shark APEX AZ1002

This variant may not have deep suction and cleaning performance. But it makes up for it in terms of versatility and access. Try as much as possible to find a vertical that can match this in terms of strength and versatility, you will be hard pressed to do so.

Positives

  • One of the most versatile upright vacuum cleaners available today
  • This lift feature enables deep cleaning under furniture
  • Allergen seal + HEPA filters make it a good choice for allergy sufferers
  • The Zero-M feature helps remove tangled hair and is a lower maintenance step you have to worry about

Negatives

  • This option is not cheap
  • Dirt capacity is not as big as real full size rolls
  • There is no bag so there is still exposure to allergens when empty
  • Some complaints that the hose is too short

What makes this a great choice in my book is its ability to take on various tasks.

Shark has revolutionized the upright vacuum industry with its versatile products that can do the job of a vacuum cleaner

This means that you are not limited to just cleaning the floors. The APEX AZ1002 can also easily clean upholstery and other parts of your home thanks to the Lift Away feature.

Lifting away gives this vacuum cleaner the power to clean like an overhead vacuum cleaner which means literally anywhere in your home where there is a plug.

You need to deep clean your car, this alternative is capable of doing just that.

This variant is a huge upgrade over the NV752 which in itself is a very good product.

What this product has on the older variant is DuoClean technology and Zero-M. DuoClean technology is the combination of a traditional bristle brush and a soft roller head first seen on the Dyson cordless.

Zero-M is an all-new Shark feature that prevents hair from getting wrapped around the brush roll. If you live with a pet or a person with long hair, it can be painful to always have to sort this mess out. This feature reduces the need to do so.

Duo Clean will not only pick up dirt on carpet but it works great on bare floors.

Suction is another strong point. Consumers report that this vacuum is self-propelling forward making it difficult to back out a bit.

There are also 3 settings for low pile carpet, thicker carpet, and hardwood. Use the correct setting accordingly.

minimum

If you’re looking for something more than a floor cleaner and don’t mind spending over $300 on it, this is a great option. This newer version has more power plus a Zero-M feature that helps detangle hair so you don’t have to do it manually. The suction is a strong point so you won’t have trouble deep cleaning carpets and it will work well on bare floor surfaces, not just carpets.

Upgrade option: Miele C2 Electro +

When it comes to performance and durability, the Milia is known to possess those qualities. The C2 Electro + is one of the most versatile deep cleaning options that won’t break the bank. Make no mistake, the $600 price tag isn’t cheap but it’s a lot cheaper than the newer Miele C3 variants that cost up to $1,000.

Positives

  • Able to deep clean carpets
  • Powerful 1200W motor
  • Great quality that can last for decades
  • Completely packed system so that there is no exposure to allergens even during emptying
  • Versatile – able to clean not only floors but also upholstery and much more
  • It will work on any type of floor thanks to the height adjustment feature

Negatives

  • very expensive
  • No small turbo brush works wonders on fabric upholstery
  • You have to replace the bags frequently – this is a packed vacuum cleaner

People who own homes with heavy pile carpets will benefit more from the Miele C2 Electro +.

It has up to 6 suction settings which will work on different types of carpets and bare floors.

However, do not buy this broom to clean the bare floor. Created to clean carpets and lots of it.

All the features you’ll find in C2 Electro revolve around cleaning medium to large homes with a wall-to-wall carpet.

From the vacuum packed system, the 35-foot power cord to the retractable cord, this machine will help keep your home’s carpets clean.

This is not the latest Miele version but it is one of the best value for money options out there which comes with the Electro Plus cleaning head that works wonders on carpets.

Another important feature of this vacuum cleaner is the adjustable height settings on the main cleaning head.

This helps match the cleaning head clearance to the thickness of the carpet. It not only helps in applying proper stirring but also in maintaining the airflow making it easier to move the tool back and forth.

The adjustable setting also helps maintain a proper distance between the motorized brush and the carpet fibres, preventing them from getting wrapped around the brush.

Miele C2 is backed by a comprehensive 5-year warranty on the entire vacuum cleaner and a 7-year warranty on motor and housing. You can extend this purchase warranty up to 3 years if you purchase the Extended Warranty option on Amazon.

minimum

The Miele C2 Electro + is a great choice if you are looking for a versatile vacuum cleaner that not only deep cleans carpets, but can also clean other areas of your home. It has an airtight bag system so allergens stay inside. This will work great even in large homes with a lot of carpet thanks to the 35-foot power cord with cord twist capability.

Great for Pets: Dyson Ball Animal 2

If you have pets at home and need something to not only clean pet hair from carpet but also upholstery, take a look at Dyson Ball Animal 2. This alternative will not only rid carpets of pet hair but also upholstery thanks to tangles – a tool Turbo free. It also has the new container that is easier to empty and less mess.

Positives

  • Works great for cleaning pet hair on carpets and upholstery
  • Great suction power and agitation make it a good choice for deep cleaning
  • The tangle-free turbine tool is highly effective for cleaning pet hair on fabric upholstery
  • A decent sized container will work great even in large homes
  • The self-adjusting cleaning head does the job for you
  • 5 year long warranty

Negatives

  • Too expensive around $500
  • Not as versatile as the Shark APEX or Miele C2
  • Reaches the borders of the short Khartoum

When it comes to suction and arousal performance, the Dyson is one of the best options out there. And Ball Animal 2 straight has plenty of both.

With over 300 watts of power, this portrait mode packs a punch and makes it easy to pick up different types of dirt on carpet.

However, it won’t be as good on a bare floor as the Shark APEX. It also does not have the same versatility as the other producers above it.

But that’s not really a bad thing because it’s designed to clean carpets.

Pet owners should consider this highly because of the tangle-free turbine tool that will sniff pet hair from upholstery and stairs without wrapping the hair around the brush.

Dyson backs this product with a generous 5-year warranty, and if you buy it from Amazon, there’s an optional 3-year extended warranty if you want that extra peace of mind.

What consumers love most about this product is the sheer power it brings to the table.

A customer bought this and a Shark Rotator NV752 and was blown away by Dyson’s performance saying it was still picking up dirt after the area was cleaned by Shark.

minimum

If you’re looking for a vertical rug that cleans deep inside larger homes, the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is a great option. It comes with a tangle-free turbine tool making this a no-brainer for pet owners.

One big downside is the price but this is a bit cheaper than the Miele C2.

For plush rugs or rugs: Soniclean Soft Carpet

The Soniclean Upright Tool is specially designed to clean soft and luxurious carpets and rugs. This vacuum cleaner is suitable for this type of surface thanks to the adjustable ventilation system that facilitates pressing on soft carpets. It doesn’t have much in terms of versatility as it is a precision floor cleaner.

Positives

  • Contains a bag system so you are not exposed to allergens
  • Hospital grade HEPA filters will keep allergens inside the bag
  • CRI . certified gold
  • Great for soft carpets or rugs
  • Large front wheels help “float” on a soft-style carpet
  • Sonic vibrations loosen dirt to help clean carpets thoroughly

Negatives

  • expensive
  • Cleans floors only – you’ll need a separate vacuum cleaner to clean other parts of your home

Not all homes have the same carpet. Some have low-pile rugs that are relatively easy to clean. However, some homes have thick, plush, and soft carpets, which can be a challenge for some vacuums to clean deeply.

This is where the Soniclean upright vacuum cleaner comes in.

This upright vacuum cleaner has many features that allow it to clean velvet carpets with ease.

One such feature is the sonic cleaning technology behind the brush roller that vibrates 200 times per second. This will help remove dirt deep under the carpet threads and help this device to get a deep clean.

Another feature worth mentioning is the soft bristles that won’t damage the plush carpet fibers. It has enough stiffness to move it around but not so much that the carpet fibers will wrap around.

The latter is the adjustable ventilation system that regulates the flow of air. This is an important feature because the lack of such can make it difficult for users to squeeze a heavily piled carpet. You can use this to clean carpets with up to an inch of pile.

Consumers really like this saying it works as advertised. This vacuum is also lightweight at about 10 pounds, so it’s a good option for older folks who will have trouble carrying something heavier.

It’s also equipped with a pouch system that keeps allergens down to 0.3 micrograms inside the pouch.

minimum

If your home has a plush rug or rug, give a soft Soniclean rug a long look. Judging by the reviews, it works as advertised and cleans soft carpets with ease. It costs roughly $350 but this vacuum works. Just remember that this vacuum cleaner will only clean floors and nothing else. You’ll need a handheld vacuum cleaner to pair it up with to clean other parts of your home.

Budget Option: Bissell Pet Hair Eraser 1650A

If you don’t want to spend more than $250 on a carpet-cleaning vertical vacuum cleaner, the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser 1650A is a great budget option. It doesn’t have the great features of the Shark APEX, the build quality of the Miele C2 or the pure suction of the Dyson Ball Animal 2, but it will be more than $100 cheaper. The brush’s tangle-free roll helps prevent pet hair from getting wrapped around the brush, making it less difficult to clean.

Positives

  • Cheapest option on this list
  • A great choice if you want to clean pet hair on your carpet or upholstery
  • It also comes with a small turbo brush that makes it easy to clean pet hair on upholstery
  • Powerful 8.5 amp motor
  • It is easy to empty the dirt bin thanks to the cyclic storage system

Negatives

  • It won’t clean like Millie or Dyson
  • Short hose so access will be limited

Bissell has been busy with product development and considers the 1650A pet hair eraser to be one of their best products to date.

This shaft is a good alternative if you don’t want to spend $400 on a Dyson Ball Animal 2. In terms of performance, this machine isn’t too far behind.

In terms of maneuverability, this vacuum isn’t as good as the ball system found on Dyson’s uprights but it’s decent around furniture.

The suction is great even on plush carpets, but you’ll have to manually adjust the height of the cleaning head to match the thickness of the carpet while the Dyson adjusts automatically.

This is the big advantage of the Dyson Ball Animal 2 vertical game. If that’s a big deal for you, go with Dyson or else you could save $100++ on this.

Khartoum is another weak point in Bissell. One review said that the Bissell uses a non-rigid hose which means if you extend it beyond four feet, it starts to lose suction.

You won’t be able to use it in really confined spaces.

The tangle free brush roll is not tangle free as advertised. If you are brushing your long hair, it will still be wrapped around the brush but is easy to cut with scissors.

minimum

The Bissel Pet Hair Eraser 1650A is a great option for people looking for under $250 capable carpet cleaning. Pet owners may also want to consider this as it also comes with a small turbo brush. However, the hose isn’t very stiff, so it won’t extend as far as the Dyson. Access will be limited.

How to choose a broom to clean carpets?

Before anything else, let’s take a look at the features to look at when shopping for an effective carpet cleaner.

1. Roll brush with its own motor

This is perhaps the most important feature that a vacuum cleaner should have for deep cleaning of carpets. Note that the dirt on the rug doesn’t just stay on the surface.

Over time, a lot of dirt will remain hidden under threads of carpet fibers. Fine dirt such as dust, power or sand can wash all the way to the back of the carpet. And if you don’t clean this part regularly, the friction from all the debris underneath can rip it off resulting in an expensive repair.

A motorized brush or brush roll will move the carpet and force the debris to rise for the vacuum cleaner to pull into the suction chamber. Think of this part as a broom that you rub against the carpet to pick up the dirt trapped under the carpet fibers.

Also, make sure the brush has its own motor. This feature ensures maximum excitement and deep cleaning. This is why you don’t see any Dyson roller vacuums here because these vacuums have airbrushes only.

2. Height and/or suction adjustment

Air flow is another important component of carpet cleaning. The less air flow, the more difficult it is to push the vacuum back and forth hence the importance of these features.

Get a vacuum cleaner that contains both if possible. The height adjustment allows for an appropriate distance between the brush and the carpet. Being too close to the carpet will pose a risk of the carpet fibers getting sucked in and clogging. If there is not enough space, you will have trouble moving the vacuum which makes the process more difficult.

3. Bin size

This is a feature that many people overlook and that is the size of the trash can. Not really a big deal if you live in a small house but it should be a problem for those who own bigger homes.

Having a large bin means fewer times to empty the trash. Also look at the design of the container – how easy or difficult it is to empty it.

4. Do you have allergies?

The answer to this question will determine whether you should get a bagged or bagless vacuum cleaner.

One of the biggest problems with bagless vacuums like the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is exposure to dirt when emptying. Even with an upgraded system that pushes dirt down for you, there’s still exposure to the dust cloud that forms when you empty it.

This could lead to bad allergic reactions if you have a condition such as rhinitis. If you belong to this group then you should seriously consider buying a packed vacuum cleaner.

People without allergies can stick to a bagless vacuum cleaner and save on the cost of bags that will increase over time.

5. How much do you want to spend?

Do not forget to specify how much you are willing to spend on the vacuum. Always remember that cheaper is not better and a quality vacuum cleaner will pay for what you spend to keep your carpet clean year after year.

Would you rather spend $500 on a good quality vacuum cleaner or a few thousand dollars on a carpet repair because you didn’t deep clean it regularly? If you ask me I’ll go with the ex. I don’t mind spending more on quality and brands like Miele and Dyson will last for years with proper maintenance.

With this said, there are also good quality brooms under $250. But expecting a performance like $500 wouldn’t be fair to the manufacturer. So set expectations accordingly.

to finish

There are 5 vacuum cleaners that are best for cleaning carpets. Remember that vacuuming is the first step in keeping your carpet clean.

Don’t forget to clean it well once every 12 to 18 months with a good carpet cleaner.

This will keep your rug looking new for years to come. If this guide helped you, please spread the word and share it with your friends.

Comment below if you think I missed out on a brand that you think should be here. Also share your experiences if you have used any of the above blanks.
