5 Best Car Vacuums: Best Tools To Clean Your Vehicle’s Interior

Posted on May 21, 2022 by admin

Let’s talk about our vehicles for a moment here.

To be more specific on the inside.

A lot of us guys focus on the exterior of a car because we admit it, how a car looks is more important than the interior.

And we end up not cleaning it at all.

When you look at it, cleaning the interior makes a lot of sense because we spend most of our time inside our cars.

And if you have children, the most important thing is to keep the inside clean to prevent asthma triggers such as microscopic dust.

A vacuum cleaner such as the Metropolitan Vac ‘N’ Blo will help keep the inside of your car clean. It has several interchangeable tools, a flexible hose and plenty of power to deep clean all kinds of messes like pet hair, flakes and other things like that. It is a bit pricey but if you are serious about keeping your car clean, this is one of the best options out there.

So why do we neglect cleaning the interior?

The first is not having the proper equipment.

Sure, you can plug in a cigarette lighter manually but these types of vacuum cleaners just don’t have enough to clean hard-to-reach places.

The next reason – it takes a lot of work and without the right tools it is difficult to clean every nook and cranny.

These vacuums are some of the best options for cars that can get into every nook and cranny. Your choice will mainly depend on personal preference and budge.

How to choose the best car vacuum cleaner for your needs?

Here are 8 things to look at to find the best car vacuum cleaner for your needs.

Choosing the right vacuum cleaner for your car is a little different than choosing the vacuum cleaner for your home.

Let’s take a quick look at the different features to look at to help you make your decision.

1. Strength

While a powerful vacuum cleaner is a must in any home to be able to pick up dirt and grime stuck under the threads of fibers on carpets and rugs. This is not a requirement when cleaning inside vehicles.

In fact, a lightweight, portable vacuum cleaner with a variety of tools would be a better choice than anything sturdy and bulky.

So you have to choose the poison.

2. Get upright if you need more energy

If you want something that will deeply clean all the fabrics and carpets inside your car, it is best to use a vertical vacuum cleaner or even a wired vacuum cleaner that has more power.

But keep in mind that these machines are heavier and require an outlet. And you will almost have to have a garage to use these cleaners or have a very long extension cord.

Some brands like Shark have new technology that covers it with a case and makes it possible to clean the built-in areas.

3. Some rolls have canister craftsmanship

Their latest product is called the DuoClean Powered Lift Away which has the vertical strength yet versatility of the case.

But these products will cost more than the options listed here because you will be paying for a well-functioning product.

4. Wired or wireless – portability question

As much as I love the portability that a cordless vacuum cleaner offers, a corded vacuum cleaner has distinct advantages over it that are worth mentioning.

The biggest advantage will be strength. Since these machines have a cord, manufacturers can put in larger motors without having to worry about uptime.

A bigger motor means more power equals better cleaning performance.

5. But you have to ask yourself, how much strength is enough?

Do you really need all that power to clean a very small area that is relatively easy to clean using only low-pile carpeting and upholstery?

Are you ready to go through all that trouble of unpacking and packing a 20-foot or so power cord just to clean your car?

Are you a style freak who has to clean his car interior every day?

If you have to clean your car more than once a week, something without any wires would be the best option.

In my opinion, the Dyson V6 Car + Boat is one of the better cordless options. It has good suction power and has enough tools to clean most interior parts of the car. Note that the V6 engine has about 10 variants in their production line.

6. Vehicle size

The interior of the car will vary depending on the type of car you buy.

There will be differences in terms of size, number of seats, etc.

Let’s say you own a minivan, then most likely you will have a large family with a lot of children on board. You’ll need a heavy-duty vacuum cleaner with above-average power to clean up the messy traces of a long trip out of town.

For younger families with young children, you know how messy these little bundles of joy can get. A handheld vacuum cleaner that preferably has a hose attachment would be a great choice.

7. Car interior design

Look at your car’s upholstery. Is it fabric, leather or suede?

This would help determine which vacuum to choose. If it is mostly fabric, it is better to choose something with a motorized brush.

In my experience, these are the best and most effective for removing dirt from fabric upholstery and in-vehicle carpeting.

This would be another consideration for purchasing something with a wet/dry function just in case spills do occur.

Leather seats may not require a motorized brush because dirt is only on the surface.

8. Access and tools

A must have hose for any decent car vacuum. Not only does the hose extend, but it also allows you to clean in confined spaces such as the dashboard, the areas between seats and cushions and the spaces under chairs.

In addition to the hose, it should also have a crevice tool and a brush for cleaning dust holes and tight spaces between the door and the seats.

To summarize:

  • flexible hose
  • Crevice and brush tools to clean dirt and dust from vents, under seats and narrow crevices
  • Special tools for cleaning hair (if you own pets)
  • washable filter
  • Decent sized trunk (especially if you own a large vehicle)
  • A power cord of at least 20 feet (if you’re buying something wired)
  • Ease of emptying the container

Remember that there is a big difference between a high-quality vacuum cleaner and a cheap one in how these accessories are installed.

Cheap Chinese cleaners will use cheap plastic with a locking mechanism to keep these tools in place, and instead will rely solely on friction.

The combination of poor quality materials and a non-existent locking mechanism will result in final cracking at the connection points if you are not careful.

Our pick: Metropolitan Vac ‘N’ Blo

Metropolitan Vac 'N' Blow

The Metropolitan Vac ‘N’ Blo is my pick as the best car vacuum cleaner because it has the right mix of power and versatility. It has the most versatile tools out of all the blanks here. You can use it to clean everything from vents to floors. It even has enough power to clean the engine compartment – if you’re that kind of guy.

Positives

  • Powerful 4 HP Engine
  • The accessories allow you to clean every nook and cranny inside the car
  • The inflation function helps to empty excess water in narrow cracks such as door jambs or emblems

Negatives

  • very expensive
  • short warranty
  • Short hose (unless you buy another one)

Of the 5 vacuums found here, the Metropolitan Vac ‘N’ Blo is the most purpose-built for cleaning cars.

The compact cylinder body with a set of attachments and the powerful 4 HP engine cleans vehicles well.

It is not the cheapest because it uses a powerful motor and steel structure which contributes to the cost.

This vacuum cleaner is one of the favorite brands used by professional detailers.

Compact and powerful

The combination of compact size, powerful engine and a range of accessories for every part of the vehicle makes this a great choice for serious detailing.

What makes this unique to other vacuum cleaners is the ability to blow air, not just suck.

This function allows car owners to blow water from crevices that the towel cannot reach and where dirt can accumulate.

There are nearly 10 different options on Amazon depending on your need. Some variants like the PRO-83BA have a wide range of great tools if you want to start your detail work.

minimum:

The Metro Vac ‘N’ Blow is a great option if you’re looking for a vacuum cleaner for your car. This product was designed by car enthusiasts for the car enthusiast who is awkward with the products of their choice. Small size makes it easy to carry. But it’s powerful enough to help clean every part of your car. It even has a blowing function that will help you dry your car after washing it or cleaning the engine.

Wet/Dry Option: Armor All Utility Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner

There are instances when your child spills a drink or, worse, vomits inside your car. This is where a vacuum cleaner like the Armor All Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner comes in. These types of vacuums are able to clean wet and dry dirt from carpets and upholstery. Since it’s a shop vacuum, it’s very powerful and the best part is that it’s super cheap under $50.

Positives

  • very cheap
  • powerful motor
  • It has wet/dry function and blowing function
  • Comes with accessories that can clean most of the car interior

Negatives

  • Very short power cord (only 10 feet) – you may need an extension cord
  • short hose (6 feet)

I’m sure you’ll agree that there are cases where you need a wet/dry vacuum cleaner to clean up those accidental spills or if you have kids, those recent spills.

It would cost you a few hundred dollars if you had it detailed by a professional so why not do it yourself?

In fact, it’s the best selling wet/dry broom on Amazon because it’s cheap and it works.

Let’s take a look at the features

First, this vacuum cleaner packs some punch with a 2 HP motor. Remember, you don’t need a full-size vacuum cleaner to effectively clean the interior, so this vacuum has more than enough power to do the job.

The second and most important feature is the wet/dry cleaning feature.

What this means is that this vacuum cleaner is capable of picking up dry as well as wet dirt. This is important when cleaning up spills because if you leave them to dry, they can leave an unpleasant odor that may linger if you don’t treat them.

The fabric will deep cleaning

This not only allows you to clean the interior compartment. But also deep clean any upholstery fabric inside your car. Simply spray the cleaning solution onto the seats, leave it on for about 5 minutes and then use the wet function of the broom to pick up the excess liquid, it’s that easy.

Like the Metro Vac, this vacuum cleaner also comes with a blowing function that allows you to blow excess water from crevices and into the engine. Great if you want to customize your own car. And it comes with a crevice tool, car nozzle, blowing nozzle, and detail brush. Basically everything you need to clean any car.

minimum:

If you’re looking for a cheap but high-quality wet/dry vacuum cleaner that won’t weigh on your wallet, the Armor All 2.5 Gallon Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner is a great choice for under $40. Perhaps the best value for money product for the five cleansers featured here.

Wireless Option: Black & Decker BDH2020FLFH

Portable cordless devices are one of the best options if you don’t have a big mess to clean up. The Black & Decker BDH2020FLFH is my choice because of the flexible hose and interchangeable tools. It won’t be able to clean up a huge pile of pet hair or puke inside your car but for maintenance tasks, it is a great option.

Positives

  • Wireless Freedom
  • It comes with a flexible hose that extends the extension and allows it to clean confined spaces such as the dashboard
  • Has a pet hair tool just in case you have pets with you
  • Very decent running time (about 15-20 minutes)

Negatives

  • Not as powerful as the other options here
  • relatively short hose
  • Small Dirt Can – You have to empty it often if your car is really dirty
  • No blower function or wet function

Since this blog is mostly about cordless vacuums, I had to add a cordless entry here, right? The Black & Decker BDH2020FLFH is for me the best cordless option if you need a car vacuum cleaner.

This is not as flexible or robust as Metro Vac ‘N’ Blo. But it is cheaper and will double as a quick pick-up tool for your home.

One of my favorite features on the BDH2020FLFH is the 4-foot flexible hose that expands the reach of this cordless.

Hose is a game changer

Unlike other cordless devices that don’t have a hose, they are more accessible and fully capable of cleaning the entire interior of your vehicle.

It includes a brush tool for dusting, a crevice tool for cleaning tight areas as well as your seats and a pet groomer that is perfectly capable of cleaning pet hair on fabric upholstery and carpets – just in case you love traveling with your pets.

Being wireless, you don’t have to worry about wires, so you can bring it with you on road trips – just keep it fully charged.

minimum:

If you feel the need for a cordless vacuum cleaner for your car, this is the best option in my book. It is lightweight, has good strength and has the right tools for most cleaning needs. The best part is that it is not that expensive plus you can bring it with you anywhere as it does not require a cord.

Lightweight and sturdy: Sanitaire SC3683

The Sanitaire SC3683 is a commercial grade vacuum cleaner with plenty of power and versatility thanks to its 1200 Watt motor, long hose and interchangeable tools. If the Metropolitan Vac ‘N’ Blo is too pricey, take a look at this option.

Positives

  • commercial quality
  • very good suction
  • long hose
  • 2 years warranty
  • Good cleaning kit
  • Has HEPA filtration option

Negatives

  • Hoses and plastic tools may crack over time due to wear

Here’s another drum vacuum that’s worth a look and will do a good job of cleaning car seats and carpets.

Sanitaire SC3683 probably has the longest plastic hose out of the box at 7 feet—feet more than Metro Vac ‘N’ Blo and Armor All.

commercial grade vacuum

This commercial vacuum cleaner has a pretty decent 10 amp motor that is capable of picking up just about anything you can clean inside your car – dust, pet hair, soil, sand, just about anything.

The long hose allows this enclosure to reach almost any nook and cranny—unless you have a pickup truck.

What I like about this product is that it can also double as your main broom for your home if it has mainly hardwood floors, so it saves you money too.

It also comes with the tools you need for 99% of your cleaning needs – a crevice tool, a brush tool, and an upholstery tool.

minimum:

Here is another dual purpose broom that works both inside your home and inside your car but note that this does not have any wet/dry function or blow function.

Wired Portable: Eureka EasyClean 71B

The Eureka EasyClean 71B is the only option here with a motorized brush. The vacuum cleaner with this feature works best at cleaning dirt on upholstery and carpets. It also includes a hose so you can clean tight corners and crevices. Although one of the downsides would be the short power cord.

Positives

  • Equipped with a motorized brush – great for flat surfaces and upholstery
  • Flexible hose and crevice tool allow this to clean tight spaces
  • Risor visor feature is a useful feature for cleaning vertical areas of seats
  • cheap

Negatives

  • Does not contain dust brush included in the package
  • short hose
  • Reach gaps even with a crevice tool

Earlier Black & Decker presented you BDH2020FLFH as a wireless handheld option.

Now here’s a wired portable device that offers another option with a different set of tools. Let me introduce you to the Eureka EasyClean 71B.

flexible hose

Like the Black & Decker, it has a flexible hose and crevice tool capable of cleaning narrow crevices but lacks a brush tool that will efficiently pick up dust.

What Black & Decker has in it is the motorized brush which has a better action and would be a better choice in terms of deep cleaning the carpets inside your car.

If your car has a lot of flat surfaces (such as a minivan), this would be a better choice than Black & Decker.

This tool also works great for deep cleaning dirt stuck on fabric upholstery.

minimum:

I recommend this if you have a larger car with more flat surfaces due to the motorized brush. This will allow you to deep clean the rug and seats with fewer passes due to the area you will be covering.

judgment

Men cleaning the inside is just as important as the outside. Ladies, I’m sure you’re aware of this because we spend most of our time indoors rather than outside.

To do the job, you will need the right tools.

Why choose Metro Vac?

The Metro Vac ‘N’ Blo is made by Petrol Heads for petrol heads who want something compact, versatile and powerful at the same time. What I like about their products is the long hose that is a must-have for cleaning the interior of the car.

It also has the most complete set of tools not only for cleaning seats and the floor. But there are also other areas such as air conditioning vents, glove boxes, etc. The folks at Dyson might argue that their product is quite versatile.

There are currently approximately 10 different variants, each with a different toolkit.

If you have young children, your best option is the durable and versatile Armor All Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner.

This machine will be able to clean up the liquids spilled inside the car so that they do not cause an unpleasant smell.

Why Black and Decker?

The Black & Decker BDH2020FLFH is a great choice if you are looking for a versatile radio with decent power.

What I like about this product is the flexible hose that extends to reach.

This allows you to clean the areas between and under the seat and center console.

I chose this over the Dyson Car + Boat because it’s much cheaper and the power difference is negligible.

Should suffer from asthma consider this

For people with asthma, the Sanitaire SC3683 is a great choice. This is the only bottled vacuum cleaner on this list but it doesn’t have a HEPA filtration. But the bag limits exposure to fine dust when empty.

Perhaps the most powerful option out of the 5 here is with a 1200W motor. And apart from using it inside the car, you can also use it inside your home. There are two options – the SC3683B is the one you want because it comes with additional tools besides the floor tool.

Big car option

For larger vehicles with flat surfaces, the Eureka EasyClean 71B is a good choice. It comes with a motorized brush that works best on fabric upholstery and large flat surfaces. The detachable hose allows it to reach nooks and crannies.

This product will benefit pet owners who find it difficult to clean pet hair from their car upholstery. You can also use it on stairs and even the mattress. So it offers a lot of variety as well.

The 5.5 amp motor will provide plenty of power, although the 20 foot wire is a bit short. But this can be addressed with an extension cord.
